not a morning eater, what to do? I have got to find a way to get Tia to eat in the mornings. When she skips her breakfast her tummy starts screaming and she begins to bring up bile. Six weeks ago it got so extreme that she went into hospital dehydrated ans had blood work done and poo samples as she had blood in it, Everything came back clear and the vet said we need to change her food( which she has been on for 4 years with no prob) because she appears to of developed an allergy to it. Anyways did that and she has still had bouts of sickness inbetween this. I kept a record of when it was happening and realised it was only in the mornings so I started giving her a late snack before bed and that was working perfectly up until yesterdaywhen this morning a grumbling belly , no eating and being sick again! All day today I have been encouraging her to eat anything but shes not having any of it. Sorry long post do do any of you guys own anorexic yorkies? |
I wonder if she could be experiencing hypoglycemia? Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) blocks the appetite even though food is the very thing that will cure it. You can give Nutri-cal, nutria- drops or even plain white Kara syrup; they are all corn syrup which is sugar that reaches the blood stream fast. You should always feed a protein within 20 of giving them this. Hypoglycemia isn’t usually a problem once a dog reaches 4 pounds, but certain conditions can cause hypoglycemia, like infections. Another option is to sprinkle something on the food like parmesan cheese to entice her to ear. Will she eat anything, how about a little boiled chicken? I wonder if something like Pepcid would help her, you could ask the vet about it. I have to feed my little Ralphie 4 times a day, even during the middle of the night because he has a rumbling tummy, but he's always hungry, so there's no problem there. Hope you find a solution and Tia feels better soon. |
Molly my 8 month old is the same. She sicked up bile mid mornings. I was leaving food down over night for her and it was always gone in the morning. the midnight snack seemed to do the trick for her but i still feed her 3 times a day now and probably always will cause she eats so little at meals. |
I feed Toki either raw for breakfast or I mix a little wet food with part of her kibble to make it more enticing! She used to just nap until noon in the morning sun before even touching her breakfast kibble! But adding the canned food did the trick! |
I mix a small amount of plain yogurt with the kibble in the mornings and my dogs eat much better. |
Joels not a morning eater either, but he does fine not eating for a while. I put chicken broth on his food or coconut oil so he eats it a little better.......sometimes lol. |
Mine get canned in the morning it is their morning treat |
The late night snack helped Teddy when he was a puppy to stop having the morning bile problem. I also found that an early morning walk encouraged him to eat his breakfast. He is a really good self regulator and if he doesn't have physical activity, he eats a lot less. I hope you can find the answers for Tia. |
