Frequency of poop...possibble to outside train if work I work full time. Can my puppy learn to go only in the morning and in the evening or is that too strenuous ? |
That would depend on the age of your puppy. I wouldn't expect a 10 week old puppy to only go morning & evening...but a 10 month old puppy, I would. |
Mine poop 3 times a day morning early like 6-7 noonish then before bed. This has been their schedule since about a year old |
Max is almost a year and he still poops 3 times a day too. You could do both pads and outside training. Check YT for some info on that. |
If you work you may want to train your pup to go potty on puppy pads instead of outside because even an adult dog isn't comfortable if they have to hold it to long and pups can't hold it very long. |

How old is your puppy? General rule of thumb: 1 month old pup can hold it for 1 hr, 2 month old pup can hold it for 2 hrs, 3 month old 3 hrs & so on. Personally, I think it's an invitation to accidents if you leave them for hrs w/out a designated indoor potty area. Mine are trained to go indoors & out. They prefer to hold it til we go out, but we live in a condo w/no yard, so we don't have that potty luxury.:D 4 got to add that mine go poopie 2 x's a day. |
We use pads and my husband also comes home from work in the middle of the day to let the pups out. I know my two could never hold it that long, so it's nice that they get that break in the middle of the day. If you can't come home, I would definitely suggest potty pads... They are a life saver :) |
Khloe is 9 months old. She poops in the morning before I go to work and then in the evenings. Sometimes I get home to walk them at lunch and sometimes my daughter walks them after school. If not they hold it until I come home at five. Khloe seems to follow her big sister's lead. Kirby is an older dog. Both girls are crated during the day when we are not at home. |
I always worked fulltime until I retired and once I began teaching a dog to hold it to go outside, my last two Yorkies have been totally clean in the house, unless ill. I leave potty pads down for them but they will not use them, preferring to hold it for outside and leaving all their scents and "trophies" out there for the world to enjoy! I think grown dogs usually sleep most of the day when their owner works so apparently it is not that difficult for them or they would use their potty pads or go somewhere! But they don't. |
Hi, I am a new morkie owner . He is 4 months old. I work full time. He poops in the morning on our walk around 630am then sometimes around 330pm when I get home and always on our evening walk around 630pm. Hope this helps. He is crated while I am at work until my daughter comes home from school at 200pm. |

Thanks for all the info guys! I'll have someone home around 1-2PM so I'll try and have a combo of peepads/outside for the time being. |

Dog hace a natural instinct to not potty on their bed, by their food and water and actually use all potty to mark territory and in strategic to dog areas. There are of course acceptions, my opup mill rescue was one he was so used to being caged hed potty on his bed and lay there next to it. He refused to potty outside the first year...he was actually terrified of grass. Scoobers was litter trained and the potty pad trained and the transitioned to pottying outside. Its best to have breaks in the day...if a dog is left to train themselves they will, we just might not like the result. |
