Confused Newbie... Hey All! After 2 yrs of going back and forth with my husband-I finally got a yorkie(well 3 mths ago).... I love her to death but she is driving me insane!!!!!! We had her going to the bathroom on the wee pads and then she stopped. And is using my carpet as her personal toilet!!! She is harassing my 8 yr old Pom. I just don't know what to do anymore...... Any suggestion? Also I'm having the hardest time uploading pictures of her. Is it me or my ipad that's having the issues :confuse2:: Thanks for taking the time |
Welcome to YT. Having a puppy is like adding a new born baby to your family. EVERY Thing changes. We some times don't get enough sleep and it seems like everything is up to us. Even stay at home people with out children and other pets get over whelmed and stressed during the puppy stage. That is ok. Take a deep breath and smile like you have just won the lottery. Take a break, go for a walk, chat up a friend, even get on here and vent. This too shall pass. All this early training will help your Yorkie learn the family rules. You can stop her from harassing the older dog. Use a firm cue word like Enough and clap your hands to get her attention. If she stops, call her to you and reward with praise, pets even tiny one bite size treats are ok to use. If she does it again repeat with the same cue. Soon she will understand what you want her to do. Some times a brief time out in another room works to calm an over excited pup. You do not have to allow her to be bossy, nippy or braty. You are the PLP (provider, leader, and protector) of the family. She is not the parent. Potty accidents usually happen when a pup has too much freedom, too soon. Puppies that are not fully house broken should not roam free for one minuet. Yorkie Talk has a wonderful library of posts check out the ones about potty training. Again Welcome to YT. |
Welcome to YT. Congrats on your new puppy. I think Teresa was right on in recommending reading potty training posts on this site. Also, it is true that puppies are sooo much work; however, the time you put in now will pay off very soon! It is probably not you or the ipad that is making it difficult to upload pictures. You may want to upload infared so you can resize your pictures. It took me a while to figure it out. Here is the link http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-pictures.html . I can't wait to see! |
Hi...welcome...congratulations...and we feel your pain. :p Hang in there. You have a doggie toddler stretching the envelope. Teresa has given you some valuable information. You will get through this, and as time goes by, all will become 'normal' again. I believe I have seen others here say they were unable to upload pix from iPads...but, we'd love to see your baby when you get the opportunity. If it gets too stressful, put her in a safe place, and come chat a while. :D Yorkies are really great dogs...you'll see. |
I felt the same way my grandson is now 9 mos and up until last month i was sleep deprived but this month it's getting alot better. I was a complete novice to owning a dog but now since i've had him since he was 8wks I'm ready to get two more males for myself just not puppies! It get's better with time.... Hang in there :-) p.s. dont know what i would have done without YT! |
Having a puppy is like having a baby and its hard work and can be tiring. You can to continue to praise them for going potty in the right spot all the time and tell them no a put them on the pad when they go where they are not supposed to. About your pom, younger siblings always bother the older ones :) |
