Frogs!!!!! How in the world do you keep the fur babies away from frogs??? I have 3 yorkies and they all three think the frogs are their personal play toys. They keep putting them in their mouth time and time again and then end up foaming and drooling and sometimes even vomiting. But that doesn't even deter them as they go right back searching for them. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the frogs and or keep the pups from messing with them????:eek: |
Only thing I know to do is teach "Leave it" well and keep the doggies on leads until they are truly trained. It's instinctive for dogs to want to go after things like this so only training can overcome instinct. Until the training if perfected, perhaps soft muzzles when the froggies are around will help keep them from opening their mouth up enough to get them in it? |
I don't know if frogs are like toads, I know they usually taste bad, maybe they may lick the frog find it unpleasant and leave the alone? |
1 Attachment(s) I guess it all depends on the dog because we have a great big toad that appears in our back yard after every rain shower he has almost become an icky pet, anyway, all of the dogs and even our cats ignore him. The first couple of times we found him in the yard I was sure that Bella would insist on messing with him because she messes with everything, but she sniffed once and walked on. When the cats didn't even bother it, I was floored. I am adding a pic of our resident toad. Not a good pic sorry. |
It has been so dry this year, we haven't seen too many frogs/toads and wouldn't you know we have an over abundance of crickets. Of course, my dogs eat the bugs but leave the frogs alone. :p:p I don't know how you would stop them. I've never really seen dogs bother them after a few foamy mouths they kind of learn that they taste bad. I don't know if you make a big deal about them in front of the dogs, they may be thinking they are protecting you from them if you get excited when you see them. I don't know, it's really just a guess. I wouldn't like mine putting them in their mouths either. Yuck! Good luck. |
I . hope mine dont become frog hunters because I have them in my backyard. One of my cats picked up one and carried it around but I got it free and it was unharmed. We love our frogs |
