Yorkie wont sleep My yorkie is 18 weeks he wakes up every morning at 6AM barking and wants to play. How do I get him to sleep in??? |
I think the best thing to do is ignore him. When he barks and you give him any sort of attention, he'll know he has you, and will keep doing it again and again. If you ignore him, he'll eventually learn. |
Do you get alot of light in your bedroom? It sounds silly but when I got Lady,we were used to sleeping with the shutters open (they totally block out the light when closed) and Lady would wake up when the sun came up at about 6am too.We like to sleep in on weekends so this was a problem..lol.So we began closing the shutters to keep the room dark and the problem was solved. Now,our babies dont move until we do,and we wake up really late on weekends! :D |
I don't know if you are sleeping with your puppy or not, but Mason used to wake me up at 5:30am sharp every morning when I was keeping him in his crate at night. When he got a little older, I started letting him sleep with me, and now he sleeps as much as I do! He occassionaly wakes me up to go to the bathroom but other than that, he doesn't wake up at the crack of dawn. |
Intresting..this thread has helped me out a little. |
We have this same problem! Cooper wakes up EARLY and wants to get out of his crate and play. This morning I woke up before him and caught him before the barking started and let him out, but he is making us crazy! We found ourselves sleeping on the sofa later today after we put him back in his crate because he was barking and barking in the bedroom. Isn't that something? A 10 week old puppy took over the master bedroom. I think we'll move his crate into another room. He's in a Labrador-sized crate with a bed at one end, food and water in the middle, and a wee wee pad at the other end. We will not let him out when he is barking...but he is very hard to ignore. Puppies are loud! We try to wear him out playing when he's out of his crate, but he's getting by on less and less sleep now. Christi |
THe only advice I have to give you is maybe you should try to wear him out beofre bed time so he goes to bed tired. Sorry that I don't have any other advice to give you, I do not have a yorkie yet my self (but May 1st I will have one). |
Darkness, wearing out, ignoring that all works in the long run and a little bit of age on them helps too. ahia was like that. i didn't even want to kiss her good night for fear she would take it as playing and get her roused again. lol i like to go to sleep to the tv and it bothers buckeye so he gets under the covers to shield the light so he can sleep. it will all work out for ya. patience. |

Thanks guys! I covered the windows and he slept until 8AM!!! :) |
Ringo gets me up every morning at 5:30am (sunrise) no matter what time I put him to bed. I try to wear him out every night. I wonder what time he will get me up once daylight savings time hits. |
I was having sooo much trouble putting Kelsey to bed at night since getting her last Sunday. But for the past 2 nights she has been wonderful and going to bed in her crate by herself for both nights! No crying, wimpering, etc. It's so strange..but wonderful! Im soo proud of her! :D |
