Congrats on your new puppy. Good luck with socialization... We have all seen this before and I hope you aren't like the many others who come back wondering why your puppy won't stop biting or why they have other issues... 7 weeks is far to young and you are aware of that. Please don't leave your puppy alone for at least a month... He deserves at least that from you :( |
Puppies also rely on their mothers to provide anti bodies in their milk so blah blah blah to you saying 6 weeks is fine. You were incredibly irresponsible to take a pup at 6 weeks and I don't give a monkey what your vet says. They also get their nutrition education sponsored by hills science diet. Even vets make mistakes. |
One thing to remember is that pious blood lines, vets or breeders who don't follow accepted patterns of keeping very young, tiny pups with the mom will none of them keep your baby safe at home and lead him through these next puppyhood weeks - only you can do that. Stay on this site, take the good advice of the many and watch him like a hawk for things that really can go wrong with a dog this young and this tiny. Your vet may not have had any experience with tinies or Yorkie so bear that in mind. Your breeder should have known better but perhaps they didn't. The people on this site have had years of experience caring for and getting this tiny breed through good and bad times so go with the words of those that have been there before and often and you can rarely go wrong. Read and study threads on here as you can and educate yourself on all the things you need to know, have the map to the Emergency Vet handy as any new puppy owner does and enjoy your Yorkie. They are the most wonderful breed! |
I'm afraid we once again have taken the bait....love the way a first time poster mysteriously comes on to stick up for OP.... Very odd...and btw....6 weeks is NEVER ok, not even for an orphan...blech... |

Also most of the social skills are learned at this time. It is not just the food that is important! |
In the world of nature, mother's keep their young with them until they are months-old yearlings, for what it is worth. That's how important momma's are to young ones in all phases of caring, nurturing and healthy development. |

Is your vet a toy breed specialist? Do they not know the health behavioal risks with this? You should ask your vet specifically about the long term behavioral effects and immediate health risks. The answers will undoubtable change your opinion. Btw these arent just random opinions these are guidelines created by reputable breeders based on medical and behavioral facts that vets and behavioralist will also attest to, nothing about this is randomly pulled from a pervervial thinking cap. |

Do you mind sharing the breeders name? |

I hope more people who have also gotten pups too early share their personal stories. Some it worked out fine for but having been here a while, reading here a few years before actually joining, I have seen for most it was detramental and sadly very preventable |
Now I don't know if that is considered appropriate on our forum?? |
Just thought i'd share.....(patiently awaits you to post the following inboxed message) |
thanks Booger I needed a good laugh before bed |
YorkieTalk is better than this. Please let's keep ugliness off our site and keep the subject on dogs and our times with them. |
This back and forth bs is so not necessary...YT is better than this. Really not cool. Attacking each other serves what purpose?? |
Private messages are not intended for starting fights or name calling. If you are receiving private messages like this they need to be reported so they can be dealt with they do not need to be posted publicly. Also, if you cannot discuss things like adults and respect other's opinions I think you really need to rethink your reason for being a part of a community like this. We are currently restructuring our Rules/Guidelines and future threads like this will no longer be tolerated. Please try to keep the tone of our community respectful. Thank you! |
to the OP (AJ) you are new to YT but perhaps this will help you understand that as a public forum everyone is intitled to post their opinion. However everyone is not intitled to call other members names and directly insult them. The fact of the matter is you have read enough posts on YT to know that after members took the time to post advice you went ahead and took home a puppy at least 4 weeks earlier than the majority on here would do and 4 weeks earlier than the national yorkie sanctioning body advises. If you could care less about that then to be quite honest you will not be happy on Yorkie Talk, because most of us here care more about the well being of the dog compared to the happy feeling the human member has. I wish you well with your puppy and it is a shame that you exhibited this attitude because what you may not realize, but I have seen first hand, is this group of people will often diagnose the root problem in a dog long before a vet does and give you the shirt off their back for free to help you with a medical issue |
Welcome! Please keep this puppy warm, without his littermates he may suffer a chill... |

congrats I am sure by now, every "vet" and "expert" with an online PHD in breeding experience has raked you through the coals - your pup is adorable and his well being is now in your hands and I just hope that your hands are the right ones. What many "experts" seem to lack here is the day they saw and fell in love with their 1st yorkie - 45 yorkies later it is all about genetics, age, pedigree - I for one know that pup that steals your heart as I searched for 3 years before I found a male ( first and only male dog ever - now almost 4 years). He stole my heart at 5 weeks and he stayed with mom until he was almost 9 weeks as I refused to pay less to take him and pay for his shots on my own. I did not buy him for his pedigree, for show and all these experts on here are losing tons of money by constantly degrading people's choices instead of showing their PERFECT dog in the arena - not everyone on here but a lot of them - while genetic health is important for your pup and the future heartbreak/expenses it could bring you - I have pet yorkies and they are more like my kids than dogs - i would give mine a kidney if they needed it and it was possible and could care less if their mom or dad ever set foot in the arena - congrats on your new baby and enjoy him for many years !!!!!!!!! |

wow... when checking my email this morning I see that our op sent a very lovely pm to me. This message removed any dought in my mind of her motive for this thread. I see by the above I am not the only person that was send a rude crude pm... and I am thankful that it has been delt with. geezzee.... and I did not say anything bad to her, just it is better to keep the pups with the mom. Sad people that this is what they spend their time on. |

At the end of the day the folks who care most about Yorkies, regardless of how different we all our, as are our pups...are still at YT, theres not just a few of us there are many of us...Again and again I say 1. Text does not convey tone 2. Difference of opinion does not =bullying or bashing...nor does it give anyone a right to. |
Lil sis something you and I said must have triggered something. I've never received such nastiness on YT before and was probably as surprised as you. I'm a big girl. They are only words. For future reference how do you report nasty pm's. I copied and pasted on the thread which apparently is the wrong thing to do. I must apologise to those exposed to the nasty tongue lashing because of this. |

To report you can click on the little white triangle in the corner (outlined in red) or pm admin or Ann or Jmuedog...I think...thats how i do it!!! |

Hello and welcome to YT. If you have any worries or concerns it is a good idea to call your vet. Things can go down hill very quickly with small dogs. If you would like a short article I wrote about adopting puppies younger than 12 weeks old, just let me know. You may find it helpful with potty training and bite inhibition issues. Best wishes and don't forget to check out YT's extensive library. Just about anything you could ask has been talked about. :) |
