New here with a few questions Hello :) I am new to the Yorkie world. My daughter bought a little male (Samson) and he is 5 months old. She has just moved back home with us, with Samson in tow. She has never been a big animal lover, so we were confused as to why she'd buy a puppy. I think she just wanted to have one like her friend but that first week she realized she may have gotten into move than she bargained for......soooooo, guess who is now the main care taker for the little dude? Moi. I'll need to go check the training thread, because this guy is going anywhere he pleases here. I know crate training is the way to go but since he isn't used to one, he puts up such a fit! And he goes on and on forever. For a 4 lb dog, he has turned the household upside down. I read they are a smart breed, so I need to begin some training. I'll be checking on this site frequently! |

Briefly and there are many threads in the training section on toilet training, set a regular food/exercise/ and relief schedule for your puppy. That will help a lot. Also use rewards for correct behaviour. They do so love to please you. Your puppy at that age should be able to hold their bladder/bowel movements for at least two hours, but it is a good idea to take puppy to their area, 5-10 minutes after food, and give the command to "go". If you like you could use a child's play pen with the puppy pads in it. The play pen gives more area for Samson. Also situate it in an area where he can see/hear a lot of the activity of the house. Remember regular exercise will help burn off that excess puppy energy. Ideally if you can have short play and or walk sessions every two hours that would be great. Short meaning 10-15 minutes. Also try now to play with a toy with your pup. Have fun with your pup |
I had the same problem with my bentley he hated te crate and all he would do is whine and i felt bad wen he would whine and i just let him out so i found that just taking him out every two hours helped alot because he would get use to going outside it taught him that is where he goes he also got in trouble when he went n the house....and monitor his food bentley ate twice a day and still does after he eats in the morning i close his food or take it and he wont get it till its time for dinner but he. An have all the water he wants i also give him a afternoon treat...this is what worked for me and i got it from YT they were a big help |
I forgot to mention she neglected to brush him daily and he got quite matted. The groomer at the Vet's office suggested we have him shaved down and start all over. So he looks like a little skinny rat right now :p I'll have my hands full with this guy.... |
