Help!! First heat!! Hello ALL! My little girl is in her first heat and this mommy is not sure what to do lol! I'm not even sure really how long she has been in it to know how much longer it will last! I just noticed the bleeding tonight though. But I noticed the enlarged vulva this past Friday or Saturday. She hasn't changed her mood at all though. I just need to know how to tell how long she will be in season. I plan on getting her spayed as soon as she comes out of season, just need to know when to expect that that will be! Thanks in advance!! |
I keep mine on a leash when we go outside (there's a law on this where I live!) and we only go out to potty. I am afraid of her attracting other dogs by her scent.... I wait until I see the vulva is not swollen anymore... but I could be wrong about this. If you're not sure, outside on leash only and keep her safely in the house. |
Newborn diapers with a tail hole you cut you modify are useful to keep your floors clean. I'd just avoid excuraions and unless your back yard is completely secure keep her leashed and be on alert. Kenneling is important when you arent around. At my vets a large dog was being treated for breaking through a window to get to a female in heat at a neighbors house. I'd contact your vet now to schedule an end of heat check and the prespay blood work |
They are in heat 21 days. 7 days coming in 7 days in 7 days going out |
My baby is on the down side of being in heat and I can tell you the diapers were a life saver. She did bleed a whole lot more than I expected for such a little girl. Wednesday will be the beginning of week 3 for her and she has been bleeding the whole time. She hasn't slept as well so Sunday night I decided to leave her diaper off while in bed. Big mistake as she got several blood spots on the bed. She also has had a lot less energy and doesn't walk as far or as long. I will certainly be getting her spayed in a couple months as I never want to go through this again. the vet suggested waiting at least 1 month after she finishes her heat as doing the surgery close to her heat causes much greater risk due to more bleeding. |
