Need your reviews of these Yorkies!! I visted a breeder today that had two Dual Registered AKC, CKC registered Yorkies and they where 200.00 even. The puppies seemed happy and nice, and the seller seemed very nice, Now i need your reviews, ideas, thoughts and concerns before pulling the trigger....Here is there website: Yorkie Pups |
The pups are cute but I didnt see anything about health guarantees or pedigrees |
I would tend to doubt the champion blood line, unless they have proof, but that is not as important as what health checks they do on their breeding pair. I would assume at such a low price probably not much. The puppies are cute but I don't think they are good examples of yorkie puppies that are bred to standards, I am not an expert but I think at 17-18 weeks the ears should be up by now. I do applaud them for not selling the boys at 8 weeks. Not all of us that would like a yorkie puppy can afford show quality so if you like the puppies and feel comfortable with the environment they have come from you could do what I did, buy the puppy but give the breeder a post dated check and take it to your vet and have it not only checked physcially but also have a complete blood work panel done, this will help but not guarantee you against future medical issues. Good luck, I know that buying a yorkie can be a very challenging when looking for a good but affordable breeder. |
opps waited to long to edit my post, I also wanted to welcome you to Yorkie Talk, and tell you that you are very wise to join this forum now and ask these questions before you choose your yorkie. Good Luck with whatever you decide |

OP the decision is up to you I can see how that low price is appealing. The problem is if the pup ends up with illness or disease where there are alot of vet bills and you have no health guarantee then it ends up being not a good deal. It is a risk only you know if your willing to take |
Hello, and Welcome! AKC Yorkies for $200. makes me go Hmmmmm. I agree with Donna's (DBlain) advice. I would not think that they have been health tested. Just because a dog had champions in it's background somewhere doesn't mean that it is a sound dog. Still, $200. is an amazing price. Ask about a written guarantee. |
I can pretty much assure you that the ears will not stand up. That is not important to me so I would concentrate on getting a healthy puppy. I wanted and got a healthy flop eared male akc who is larger than standard. That is what I wanted and that is what I finally found and purchased. $200.00 is a real cheap price and if these puppies are healthy I say go for it. Welcome to yorkie talk. |
I can't say as to the puppy pedigree but if it's any indication, you can also hire them to repair your heating and air conditioning. |
Personally, I wouldn't be too confident with a $200 price tag. |
I like Donna's idea about post dated check and vet visit for testing. Not everyone can afford show quality dogs. And I might add, show quality does not guarantee a healthy puppy. |
I notice it seems like they breed lots of other dogs which is a red flag and one of the yorkie pups looks off to me. I would ask if they do health testing which I doubt they do selling there pups for that little and if they don't I would not get a pup. Also I would want to see where these pups are growing up, there parents, and know what kind of health guarantee is offered. Normally selling a pup that cheap means they cut corners and thats not good. |
Please don't buy a dog without visiting the home and seeing how the dogs are kept. Breeders who sell directly to the public need no liscense and some of the worse puppy mills are run by the breeders who sell online. There have been cases of dogs feeding on each other and yet their are no laws to regulate online sellers. Federal agencies are trying to change this loop hole, but breeders are fighting it. |
I would suggest asking if you can pick a pup (or maybe even take both) to a vet to be checked, even if you have to leave a deposit or something, or even have the breeder go with you. You want to make sure the pup is healthy and that it doesn't have bad knees (luxating patella). I cannot say about the ears. If the hair is cut real short on the upper 1/3 - 1/2 of the ears and you tape them for awhile, they might stand up. One of my yorkies has one ear that stand up and one that is floppy, and my other yorkie has ears that will stand up if the ears are tipped (hair on tops of ears clipped short) but they will be floppy when the hair on the ears gets longer. The price is VERY good (low) so I'd be mostly concerned about getting a healthy puppy. At their current age, I would assume the price is lower because they are getting a little older now and the breeder needs/wants to get them to their forever home(s). Heck, for that price you could get both for less than most pay for one. ;) |
Red flags for me....the price. I KNOW how much it costs to get a healthy baby, on good food, with shots and well baby checks and worming program and microchipped to 12 weeks of age....that price doesnt even come anywhere close. I dont see health certificate or health guarantee or anything in a contract that protects YOU if that baby gets sick in a week, or a month.... I get concerned about all the different breeds he is involved in....and "dual registered AKC/CKC"...is that Canadian Kennel Club??? If not, jump back. I dont like to see dogs on chains, staked out...maybe that is some knd of something you do with Beagles when they go hunting....? And why are we flagrantly scratching and scribbling out all over on the pedigree?? Not illegal, but just doesnt look very professional to me.... This is not something I would go for....I have shot myself in the foot so many times in the past, buying cheap, thinking I was getting "SUCH a deal"...ends up costing me a fortune.....in my experience, you usually get what you pay for....why is he selling these babies bargain basement prices? |

The OP did mention she visited the breeder and the puppies seemed happy and nice. As other said a $200.00 dog could turn into a $2,000 dog in a hurry but I have it seen that happen with expensive dogs, show dogs and pet store dogs as well. I will share my story with you, because I was in similar situation a few years ago, I wanted a yorkie or a yorkie mix and after going the high end route three times in a row for yorkies that I paid over $1,500 and none lived past 9years of age I wanted to take a different approach. I started searching locally for what I would call a decent small back yard breeder and was willing to pay around $400 to $500.00 I found Lola and decided she might be the one so I set up a time to go see her early enough in the day that I could take her immediately to my vet and left the seller a post dated check for the full amount. I had a complete blood panel, urine test, and stool sample done all at my expense, cost around $155.00. The results on the blood work came back the next day and all was good so they cashed the check, the only disappointment was that the people were not breeders like I assumed. They did not lie when we spoke on the phone I just never thought to ask because I was not aware of brokers at the time. They claimed to sell for a few friends that bred dogs in northern MI, had I not fell in love with Lola at first sight and had I not had the comfort of knowing she would be seeing a vet for tests as soon as we left I might have bailed. I wound up paying $450.00 but she is not purebred, she is mixed with pom, but as you can see from the photos in my album she looks more like a yorkie but slightly different and of course I think she is the cats meow. I had her blood work done again early his summer and plan to each year around her gottcha day, this way I have a good history for future reference, LOL I used to be cheap with my expensive dogs and had no bloodwork on them until they were around 5 now with Lola I make sure I have a vet check her over completely ever year. She will be 2 in Dec. and so far so good, but who knows what the future will bring, but at least I know her numbers are good and she came free of puppy type diseases. My best advice is to goggle the heck out of their name, make a surprise visit to their place, see if you can talk to people that have bought puppies from them, talk to their vet, and then most importantly take no chances and spend the money for a complete vet check from your vet, not just a quick puppy check. |
Hmmmm 200.00??? JMO I wouldn't...frankly that price scares me...vet costs eventually...no health guarantee? Nope I'll pay more for a healthy pup with a health guarantee, again that's me. I too bought from a byb (unknown to me at the time), but in hindsight there were many red flags...no papers, no health guarantee, the breeder was breeding more than one breed. Immaculate home, saw both parents, but nothing written on paper. And a hefty price tag...I got lucky...both of mine are healthy and are now over a year old. I decided not to tempt fate again and researched like crazy before purchasing no. three. The result was Jersey who is due to come home next week...shots up to date, written health guarantee, microchipped and full support for the life of the pup. Forgot full disclosure from her vet, she also has an open door policy..'come by anytime'. I fell in love with this breeder! I took the advice I learned from this site and the wonderful people on here that told me buy your breeder first. My researching took me almost six months...AND I am payin the same price that I had paid for my first two.....sorry to sound harsh but you get what you pay for. With no health guarantee you may be setting yourself up for heartbreak/and or high vet bills. |

Hi and welcome. I would be concerned with the price. Breeders spend a lot of money from what I have learned. Vet care , food and other necessities. A $200 price tag is like giving away a yorkie pup. I would be more concerned with the health. Are the puppies mixed? There is nothing wrong with mix breeds and I love them all!. Do some more research before making this decision. I would have the puppy checked by a vet of your choice and get some health guarantee from the breeder. Good luck and I hope it works out. |
16 years ago I bought my Presley from a breeder. He was one of two puppies left. I paid $275. At that time, I had no clue that breeders offered guarantees. But, maybe this is something new. For 7 years we had no problems.. Healthy as a horse. Unfortunately we spoiled him rotten and fed him from the table and he developed Pancreatitis. He still suffers bouts from time to time. This I blame myself for - if I had fed him the proper food he would have been a dog without any issues. 16 years aint too bad for a $275 pup. You just never know what your going to get. |
