My senior yorky is blind, walking into walls now Hi All, It is sad what should I do within the past 6mths he has gotten really bad w seeing. I have to pick him up to let him out and than he tries to find his food and he has a hard time finding it I now have to put him in front of his bowl I noticed the past few days he is eating a lot of dry food and not much wet food at all which he used to love. I dont know what this is about either but it is real sad Are your yorkies blind? if so how do you handle it? thanks denise |
I am so sorry you are having this problem. Its hard when they get old and have so many problems. We lost one in June to CHF and dementia. She also had cataracts and could not see well. I kept her in her playpen so she would not get hurt. We took her out periodically and let her get some excercise and eat but I know its really hard. Some dogs ajust real well if they know the house real well and they say not to move furniture around and change things and they can do pretty good. Just love her and take the best care you can and you will never regret it. They give back so much, they deserve us loving and caring for them to the end. Bless you and your baby. |
What does the vet say? There are a few possibilities, some fixable if caught in time. My yorkie is likely going blind, but hers is not fixable. She only has trouble at night niw, so I leave a kight on. |
i know i take care of him i love him a lot but he seems to just want to sleep i do not move him from my house even when we went away for a night i left him here and my neighbor came in to care for him for these reasons i thought he may die if i took him away from here he doesnt get up at night so we are good there once he goes out last around 10pm he will sleep in his bed til morning so thats good it is mostly day time when he walks into things taking him to the vet on tuesday he is due for his annual visit thanks denise just sad |
I know you love him so much and it hurts to see them go downhill. There is really nothing to do but just be there for him and work with your vet. Like I was saying, alot of little blind dogs ajust. I had a friend that had a little toy poodle that was born blind. She lived to be 15 and did really well. Of course I know its harder when they go blind than to be born blind but just hang in there and he knows how much you love him. |
