Stella and Chewies freeze dried raw Any thoughts on Stella and Chewies freeze Dried raw food? My Zoe is 8 months old and weighs 5.4#. I researched food and started her on Orijen when I got her at 3 months. She has never been overly excited about it. I mixed yogurt with it and that worked for awhile and then she wouldn't eat that. She will rarely eat in the mornings and oftentimes waits until mid afternoon. I picked up a sample of Stella and Chewies freeze dried today, I mixed 1/2 of a disc with her kibble when I got home and she went crazy at noon. I did the same thing for dinner and again she couldn't wait to get her nose in it. I have never seen her get excited about her food. If this continues I think I should seriously consider switching her. Any recommendations on how much to feed her and any other opinions would be greatly appreciated. |
I know a few here feed it to their Yorkies and they have great success with it. I think if you look in the Health Diet Forum you will see it has been posted about. I know it's good food. So glad that Zoe is excited about her food. |
Looks like you'd need to feed her 3 to 4 patties a day depending on the variety, age, and her activity level. Toki loves S&C! She likes the Duck Duck Goose a lot and we just started a bag of the freeze-dried Dandy Lamb. Toki weighs 9 pounds I'll give her 1.5 to 2 patties in the AM (depending on the formula...some have 55 cal/patty and others have up to 75 cal/patty) and I feed her grain-free Fromm kibble in the evenings. Sometimes I just use it as a kibble topper (can get kinda pricey, especially if you go with the freeze-dried over the frozen). You can also throw in some frozen green beans to make your pup feel fuller and if you hydrate the freeze-dried, it's a good way to make sure your dog gets plenty of water. |
My two get S & C for breakfast every morning. I crumble it up and throw in some green beans, their vitamin treat, and for Gulliver, some shredded carrots. I feed either the beef or the surf & turf depending on which the store has, and they just scarf it up. They get a patty each. It's very convenient for travelling also. |
Soph was the same as your Zoe, turned up her nose at every kibble I tried and a couple of the other Raw diets as well. S & C was recommended to me by Gulliver's breeder and Soph just absolutely loves it. She's about the same size as Zoe, and the recommended amount is two patties per day for her size I believe. I don't feed the S & C exclusively as it is on the pricey side but I pair it with a good kibble and they're both eating well, no skin problems and good poops. |
I got a sample patty and Callie loved it but I just don't think I can feed her raw especially because vets are trying to speak against it or something like that now. |
We love Stella &Chewy's Chewys. FYI they are obe if the few raw companies that independabt test and use uv-c and other bacteria killing sciences. The against raw studies were of nonprepared nonfreeze dried home made raw and based on cases of incidents reported by owners strictly. Personally I feel anyone who objectively looks at the raw study research would find it extremely limites in its scope of inclusion in the least if not extremely bias cobsidering the lab and corporation who funded antiraw researching... As with any specialty diet do your research on the correct balanced diet for your dog. |
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to keep using it unless anyone can show me facts as to why it would be good for her. It was so awesome to finally watch her be excited about her food. |
I've been feeding premade frozen raw for about 4 years - but I do use the freeze-dried for travel bc it's so easy! I've used Primal (mainly what I use now), Natures Variety, Stellas, and Bravo, and then a few more types in freeze dried when I travel. I'm SO glad you found something she loves, isn't if fun to see them loving their food? :) |
I have been using the S&C since I got my pups, two years ago. They love it, we love it, and I think it is the best food on the market. The directions for the amount you should be feeding your pup is on the side of the bag |

The thing to remember about premade raw is tat is tends to be very high in fat. So dogs prone to pancreatitis could be set off. It is impossible to know which dogs are probe to it, but yorkies in general are at greater risk than most other breeds. I would talkto your vet. |
I love the stella and chewy's freeze dried patties, and so do the pups. They are easy to feed, just break up the patties, my pups weigh a little over 3 pounds each and get 2-3 patties a day and do great. Its better then the raw because you can leave it out. I am trying to put weight on the pups and this keeps them at the right weight. My favorite is the duck duck goose because it smells the least. |
