Pet insurance Im uncertain about insurance......does most yorkie owners get it, are most yorkies breed by good breeders usually able to live healthy long lives? Or do all yorkies have health issues sooner or later? I have a 12+ yr old Maltese and have had no health issues, but reading under health and sickness forum here on YT HAS ME SCARED. If most owners get insurance, which one has been reliable for you? Thanks for helping me decide? |

hi, yes a lot of folks on here do have insurance for their yorkies and if your dog happens to get sick the insurance can save you some money. Make sure you read all the fine print before buying. Make sure it covers the things you want it to. also some can be pricey . i myself started a saving account for my pets in case of emergencys. I put a certain amount in each month and it is there if i need it.. |
I have an insurance policy for Sophie Kate through VPI however I cannot make an opinion since i just signed up for it last month. I also have the pet savings account but I have been dipping into that a lot for Avery my elderly cat so I wanted a chance to rebuild it. I received a coupon for the VPI insurance and actually did some comparing of different providers, VPI seemed to be fairly priced for good coverage. If you go to VPI's site they have a comparison tool with a lot of their competitors. |
I do not have insurance for Levi -- I've looked into it a few times, but ultimately, I don't think it's the best decision for me and Levi. I think it's an awesome idea though, and if I got a puppy, I'd probably start them on pet insurance right away. Levi has a separate savings account that we use for his vet bills and any dog-related emergency expenses. You can get quotes from different insurance companies -- we've looked at VPI, PetPlan, and Embrace and they all have different options. I think you just have to find what works for you and your pet, as long as you know that your pup is safe and covered in case of an emergency. |
I do have insurance on my dogs. I didn't have it for my dog that I had for 11 years, but when he suddenly had some major medical issues last year, it was EXTREMELY expensive! I too had also put money to the side in case I ever needed it, but I can also tell you that his care was thousands and thousands of dollars. So, when I added new dogs after losing him, I went back and forth and finally decided to add it. I can also say that while I was still in the thirty day waiting period and trying to decide if I would keep it, we had an emergency happen, and the insurance ended up saving me alot of money! So, I am happy with my decision. I know that if something serious were to happen, I would definitely do whatever I could possibly do, and I just didn't want to chance that again...especially after spending so much extra money last year. |
I have 5 dogs and all have pet insurance. The reason being that we had two yorkies who were 7 yrs old and decided to get two Staffordshire pups. I thought it would be best to have some insurance for the pups incase something went wrong when they were young . at this point none of them were insured. I took out insurance for the pups and Sadly a couple of months later Bailey slipped his older and ran into the road, he was hit by a car. We took him I the vet who tried to save him but he died at 4 months old. The insurance paid for everything. I then decided to insure all 3 dogs. 2 years later Mitzi one of the 9 yrs yorkies developed diabetes she was in the hospital on 24hr care for 3 weeks at a cost of around £5000 her treatment since that time, she is now almost 14 has cost at least this much again. Her sister Morgan around the same time developed a hole in the heart, she sadly died 2years ago. Again the insurance covered all costs. If I had not had this we would not have afforded the treatment they were given and our choices for them may have been very different. I now have 2 yorkie pups , 2Staffordshires 7 and 9 yrs and an old girl yorkie almost 14 yrs. I insure them all as Im afraid even with a savings account I might not have enough for major treatment. They are insured for up to £12,0000 per accident or illness this is for a year and renews every year for the lifetime of the dog. It gives me peace of mind. |
