with winter coming..what do you do?? I live in Colorado where it gets sometimes 10 below, my little Emy is already shiverring in the morning when I take her out...and it only 50 degrees in morning now....I don't know what I'm going to do, I put her t-shirt and a puppia padded harness over it for some warmth....I have a winter coat on order..but what about their feet...I bought some boots for her in the winter, she won't let me put them on..biting everything including my fingers...she goes pee on her peepads, but not poop, she stands at the door...I don't want to take her outside in the mornings in the winter...what do you guys do?? I don't have a fenced yard, I don't want to go out either LOL...maybe I should just give her the playpen with peepads and nothing else and put her in there in mornings to poop, maybe she'll get the idea to poop there...just for wintertime... |
Paw-wise....I think you need to speak to Karen (AllDogBoots) on YT - she's amazing - she will give you advice and help you sort everything out! :) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
It doesn't bother Jackson, lol, so I have no experience. My friends 4.5lb and 6lb yorkies aren't terribly bothered by it... the smaller one will shiver if he's out too long, but she usually just keeps a sweater on him. |
I'm sorry I cannot offer you any advice, as I live in Texas LOL but I was wondering what coat you ended up ordering? |
I live in Canada - -30C is a guarenteed occurance. My yorkies are larger, and for the most part do not seem bothered. I also have to go out with them as Mya is an escape artist. I find when it's really really cold, they hurry along. We have coats and hoodies, but they won't tolerate the boots. My biggest complaint is the snow and cold make them hyper - really sucks when one of them needs out in the middle of the night, lol. |

what about their paws...doesn't the cold bother them??? Her hair seems so fine to me, I bought a hooded toggle coat...lined it looked like..haven't received it yet....from you guys responses it sounds like the cold doesn't bother them at all...that so surprises me, because they seem so fragile with everything else healthwise....I was worried about her little paws..so they walk on the snow and everything without freaking out?? Its not for another 3 months probably here, although we always get snow on halloween it seems....thanks for all your help...maybe...I won't worry so much about it, she'll probably be bundled up more than me...I HATE COLD WEATHER!! |
We bought one of the small steel enclosures that have the tarp roof on the top (to keep predators out) and then my husband put some type of siding on the three sides (that then he removes in the summer) and then the front where the door is, it's clear greenhouse material, and it is snow-free for the winter months and keeps Abby dry when it rains too! It sits in the corner of our patio where we kept grass underneath it....it works perfect! |
Alldogsboots.com potty patch Washable potty pads A heated porch potty area? |

Harry won't keep anything on his body - he can get a jacket off before he reaches the top of the stairs....but I would NEVER take him out in the ice and snow without something protecting his feet - I'd rather stay indoors for a couple of months! Sally x |

Boots?? Naw not with mine, not happening...they love the snow as long as it isn't too cold out, they play, and carry on out there....meanwhile I'm freezing my butt off! I just put a sweater on my two, they are fine with that. |
HARRYSMUM: Thanks, but I was responding to the others one from Canada and one from Maryland that said it didn't bother their little guys. Anyway....I don't have a heated porch, she won't go on washable potty pads, and she chewed up a potty patch litter box that I bought her....she is my little devil....she might just get her own x-pen with nothing in it but peepads, she has no choice but to pooh if she needs to in there...then I'll just clean it up for the next pooh time....I have 4 months to think of something...I have muttluks that I bought, just received, she won't let me get them on....so don't know if anything will get on her feet..I'll keep trying though....thanks again....I'm open to all tips....!:D |
Did you try getting sod from the garden nursery? |
My two go outside all year long... They just do their business and then come right back in. Maybe put a sweatshirt or jacket on her, but she will be fine as well... If you really want, you can get her some boots, but my two refuse to walk with boots on lol. |
