Home remedies for bad UTI?

Rylee is suffering from a bad UTI. She had a x-ray of her bladder on Wednesday and it came back clear thank goodness. No stones and no tumor. Now we wait for the results of the urine culture. She is on Amoxidrops in the meantime, but here is my question. She has the constant urge to pee ALL day since that procedure. The vet tells me that is normal since they were up her bladder and she would probably be uncomfortable for a few days. What can I do for her in the meantime? This poor little baby is miserable. Does anyone know of any home remedies that work to help with the pressure and "urge" to pee feeling? I have her on a heating pad but it's 104 degrees out and she won't stay on it for too long. Help...........my baby needs relief!!!!

She must be so uncomfortable! I hope you figure out something to comfort her soon. I'm sure someone will have some advice for you.

This is what vets are for. Call that vet and insist on something to help her get some pain relief and sleep. The burning and pain from the severe irritation/infection are what is keeping her awake, no doubt. Call you vet and get her some help and don't take no for an answer.

As a person with bladder and kidbey damage since childhood I can assure you there are none.
I have chronic acute UTIs...its miserable.
Antibiotics are needed.
While there are irinary tract supportive and preventative suppliments for people and dogs dog cannot take the natural cures people can which only work half the time anyways.

Coconut oil is supposed to be good for the kidneys... I've had Tink on it for 1 year bc she had recurring UTIs.

I went through this back in March with my little guy. He was 8 months old. AND...I have had them myself...as one poster said...there isn't anything you can do but wait till the meds kick in....This is actually a question for your vet...Hope she is feeling better soon...UTI's are HORRIBLE!

Awe Janis I am sorry for sweet Rylee. Here is what the owner of the pet bakery I buy everything from recommended to me when our Boxer had a reoccurring UTI. She also said her furbaby had incontinence and UTI's and it worked wonders for her. I hope Rylee feels better soon.

Did your baby try to pee constantly? For how long? As I said, she had that x-ray done on Wednesday. That whole procedure made her worse! She was not nearly this bad before that was done. The major concern was the blood in her urine. She had been on antibiotics for over a week for a UTI and the blood was still showing up. As I stated before, the x-rays were clear but now the constant urge is much worse. She literally is walking in the crouch position. She can't play because of the "urge". She is still very alert...........she is laying around more I believe due to the discomfort. She won't eat her kibble either (she is eating boiled chicken). I should also mention that she is also trying to poop more often. I'm assuming this is also due to the procedure. I think she is just trying to relieve pressure. I'm calling the vet again this morning. My vet is battling cancer and I almost feel like he just isn't at his best to be continuing with his practice. I've always liked him in the past and still do so I'm having a hard time leaving to go to another one. What do you guys think? Am I worrying too much and just need to be patient and wait this out?

Home Remedies And Treatments For Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) In Dogs

The antibiotic may not be appropriate for the type of bacteria that caused the UTI in the first place. He should probably try switching her to another one. A week on antibiotics would usually have been adequate to ease the most severe symptoms, in my opinion. You are NOT being overly worried. I would, too. I cared for terminally ill and very disabled children who could not speak for themselves, so I always had to be on the alert for these types of things and then advocate for them. If necessary, find another vet ASAP. The bladder infection can ultimately cause kidney damage, so you want to be aggressive to get it taken care of, if they are anything like in humans. I am praying for you and your dear baby.

+1

Since the results of the culture aren't in yet, then the vet doesn't know exactly which microorganism is causing the infection, so perhaps the antibiotic that she's on isn't the correct one. Although, Amoxi-drops are a broad-spectrum antibiotic and one would think that would do the trick, but you never know. Poor thing (both of you!), I would be beside myself watch my dog go through this.

Why is it that our human doctors can get a culture back within 24 hours, but it takes a vet several days? Meanwhile, the little dearie is suffering and her sweet owner/protector is getting frantic. My heart goes out to you both!

ACV the kind with the "mother" is also good.

As always though check with your vet first :)

Do you know, when I read this thread earlier today, my immediate thought was 'cranberries' - that's what's suggested over here as a natural remedy. I wasn't sure though, if it was on the 'ok' list for the Littlies :)

I agree too - fresh is always best - after you've checked with your vet!! Sally + Harry x

Thank you.........just got back from the vet AGAIN. Since it is Saturday, I didn't want to wait. He checked her out again. No temperature..........she isn't tender when he squeezes her . He expressed her anal glands just in case they were bothering her. He checked the culture and said it is growing so she definitely has a bacterial infection, just to early to see which type. Also shows a small percentage of protein in her urine which he said is most likely due to the infection. He is convinced that her constant urge is still irritation from the procedure and that will clear up in time. He hopes to have results of the culture by Monday or the latest Tuesday. This is exhausting for both of us!!!! :(
