Just got this information from Dr.Becker, Healthy Pets site....nothing I would jump on immediately, but definately an option for consideration.....I am a bit leary about these injectible streilization things...I had a little Chi bleed to death when I was a kid...she had been getting a shot that kept her from coming into season....it messed up her clotting mechanism and she just started bleeding and bled out...this was back in 1966...they were not doing a whole lot of aggressive care for dogs at that time...we took her to A&M, but there was nothing they could do for her.... So, with that in mind, I very cautiously watch and wait for trials on this.....

~~An injectable chemical sterilization drug will be available for use in the U.S. by the end of this year. It is currently FDA-approved only for dogs from 3 to 10 months, but the manufacturer believes it will be approved as safe for all dogs 3 months and older by the time it is released.
The drug, brand name Zeuterin, contains zinc gluconate neutralized by arginine. It acts as a spermicide and causes irreversible fibrosis of the testicles, which eventually atrophy and shrink in size, but remain visible.
Upon its initial release, Zeuterin will be made available primarily to shelters and spay-neuter clinics. The drug can only be sold to licensed veterinarians who have been trained in the injection procedure by the manufacturer.
The drug is highly effective at sterilizing male dogs with a single injection in each testicle. There are some side effects which seem primarily related to the injection technique.
It’s important to understand no sterilization procedure is completely risk-free, short or long-term. Once Zeuterin is widely available to private veterinary practitioners, we encourage dog owners to discuss with their vet the pros and cons of the procedure vs. traditional spaying or neutering.

thank you for info...my bruno is 4 months and im waiting till he is 6 months before he gets neutered...he is humping a lot...my friends say dont do it cuz it changes their personality...im not sure what to do?

I have 3 males ages 3, 1, and 9 months.... They all had the same personality before and after their neuter! My 3 year old is the only one who still "humps"... But he wasn't neutered until he was 2. I would definitely have him neutered!

I just have a built in issue with injecting "stuff"....for any reason....that may comefrom the issue with my pet Chi when I was young.....watching that little dog bleed to death and they could do nothing to stop it....I was even thinking of that experience when they came out recently with a med that keeps women from having a period every month....I am just not real sure that is a good thing....again, going back to my little dog....and now they have something they inject into testicles that atrophies them up to uselessness....I guess it is that sentence, "....long term effects...." that gets me.... I think I will sit on the sidelines for at least 7 years, and see how this develops.

Wow this is interesting. I think I'll take a place on the sidelines on this one as well. Mine are already altered so luckily I wont have to think more about this for a very long time. Thanks for sharing though, interesting!

Its interesting to think about. I would have to see long term studies of any possible effects before I would consider doing it but with The fear some have of anesthesia it may be an option time will tell

Yes, and there are even those that do NOT tolerate anesthesia...someone on here had that issue with their baby, where heart rate dropped dangerously during a surgery and it was aborted.....if this turns out to be as safe as it looks at first glance, this will be really a great option....

I can see this NOW..............."Hello, 'Mr. Couver', this will just take a second...I am just going to stick this 18 guage needle right here into your testicle, first the left one, then the right one, and slowly inject this chemical that will make everything just shrink up like a dried fig...it wont take but a couple of minutes...just dont jump or we can do some terrible damage to neighboring appendages if this should leak over into any other place......"
