Flea shampoo has it ever worked for your yorkie? Hi everyone i washed Tara with flea shampoo on Friday but have noticed today a flea that jumped on her belly i've ran a flea comb through her hair but just cannot find it. I musn't have washed her correctly with the shampoo has anyone ever used flea shampoo if so did it work for your yorkie? Also if i washed her with it on friday do you think it would be ok to do it again now?? Many Thanks :) |
Last summer I used flea shampoo, but after I found out it was pretty harmful... I stopped using it. I then started using diotomaceous earth on them instead because it doesn't contain the harmful chemicals that flea shampoo does. I found that I needed to sprinkle and rub it on them daily, but it worked. This is not the site I ordered it from, but it is the brand I used. LuminoPets.com Home Page |
Thankyou very much i've never heard of this i've just been having a look and i'll definately be getting some seems alot safer! Wow never thought that these shampoos could be so harmful you presume if they are being sold in the pet stores they are safe i will definately be getting rid of the rest of the bottle!... Thanks again :) |
Dawn dishwashing liquid (plain, original) will knock down the fleas in the bath, using a sprayer will help immensely with getting them out of the coat. Use a good amount of conditioner and let it set in for a bit before rinsing out. Then blow dry her, this will also help in finding any fleas that were missed in the bath. Wait a day or two before applying any topical treatment from your vet... or the DE can be applied as soon as she is dried. |
When I was a mobile groomer, had a poor dog that was infested w/fleas, that the bath water turned red.:( As soon as I got home, I jumped in the shower & used tropiclean neem shampoo, the same shampoo we use for dogs. Neem really kills the fleas, or at least stuns them & they drown during the bath. It also comes in oil form. Unfortunately, I saw a flea jump off my clothes & disappear... so mine all got frontlined. We've got to try the diatomaceous earth & dawn. |
Most flea shampoos will kill the fleas on the body but they will not keep fleas from jumping on your dog again. If your dog had fleas on it they more than likely have laid eggs some where near by and there are plenty of them outside. Flea shampoo does not protect against fleas. |
I go to a holistic vet and emailed them regarding Diatomaceous Earth, fully supports it use. There has also been mention on here regarding coconut oil, Teegy had a bout of pancreatitis this year so that was my worry. here is the quote from my vet. "Coconut oil is a medium chain triglyceride that absorbs and digests more readily than other oils, so it is useful for pancreatitis patients that need oils to assist with energy needs and weight." |

If you have a massive flea problem I would say yes. Only a small amount needed. You can also sprinkle on your lawn I made a repellent from essential oils that I use but wanted a natural back up for any critters that get past it |

I found 3 fleas on Bentley today!! I FREAKED! I found 2 fleas on Sadie and 3 fleas on Lillie....a few years ago...NEVER had an issue with fleas...my neighbor brought his little guy (yorkie also) over to play with my 3 the other day....their dog ALWAYS has fleas! How can I tell my friend/neighbor NOT to bring his dog over if he has fleas!!! I washed ALL the pups right after I found the fleas on Bentley...I used neem shampoo..the dawn I have has oxy in it...didn't think that would be good to use...I HOPE! this killed all the little suckers! |
When you bathe for fleas, I was told to be sure and start at the head/neck...the fleas will FLEE from all over the body, and head to the head, ears and eyes....so wet all the way around the neck and lather up your flea shampoo or Dawn, very well, all the way around the neck...then work your way down the body to the tail....Thank God, I dont have a flea issue....but when I used to, this worked very well my dogs.... |
Neem and DE Flea worked great for us. Both are 100%the natural but they didnt have a completely positive effect on coats so we dont use them anymore. |
Next time she brings her dog over scream fleas! And go into a panic offeribg to wash her dog immediately for her...either she'll leace and deal with it or her flea bag will get a defleaing bath... Also ONLY EVER USE ORGANIC FOOD GRADE DE. All over, the chemical DE will kill ppl and animals. |
Hi guys i decided to go with the Dawn method (Fairy Liquid here in the UK) starting from the neck and i managed to kill the one i saw on her it was floating in the water it was a joyous occasion!! :D But does this kill any eggs aswell?? |
