We had Rocky's surgery the first of the month. I just put alittle belly band on him that kept him from licking the stitches. Worked out really well. He didn't seem to mind it at all. |
My personal opinion is that something was not right with that incision from the get go. A wound that is 1 week post op should not be able to open. If he went at it with that much vigor I would think something was really not right. One week post op he should have been out of pain and without the need to go after the wound. It is very unusual for an animal to rip open a wound. That collar was not properly fit to him. I can't imagine what that poor dog has been going through. |
He is definitely a chewer, he loves chewing/biting his skin, which is why I had been cautious. When he had food allergies he would bite till he formed scabs. Now I've found the right food for him, that has almost disappeared. The wound really looked healed this morning, and he had seemed fine with it while we were walking about. I almost think its a habit he has. I guess I have to trust the vet who is looking after him, and hopefully once the soft cone arrives I will have a slightly more comfy dog. I will have to give the wound a long time to heal. He is an older dog, which I know will slow the healing down, so perhaps we didn't take that into account. When I was looking to buy a new collar, and measuring him, they all did say to make sure the collar comes past his nose, which would make this current one the correct size? |
the comfy cone 1 Attachment(s) We got the comfy cone yesterday....what do you think> |
It certainly is an improvement over the one they gave you at the vet's office! I hope your guy is more comfortable. How is he with the incision? Does he seem to be bothered with it or is he leaving it alone? He should be totally healed soon. I really wish that veterinary clinics would stock the soft cones. I'm sure if they bought a lot of them in various sizes they could get a huge discount from a veterinary supply company. There is just no need to add further suffering to an animal post surgery. I hope he is all better real soon. Keep us updated! |
he doesnt seem bothered by it, but I'm taking no chances this time! I will take him back to the vet after the weekend, to see what she thinks, but I plan to leave the collar on a bit longer just to be safe. He seems ok with the collar now, he's just got used to it I suppose! |
Molly and Lilly had their spay 2weeks ago, I got the laparoscopy spay done and bought baby romper suit without feet. I put it on back to front with the poppers up the back. I left the bum bit open so she could pee andpoo. Lily didn't need hers Molly wore it the first night but not after this. their wound was only the size of the tip of a pen so no stitches. Dont think they noticed anything was there. Molly seemed to have a bit of irritation from being shaved and that's why Imput the suit in her was very cute. |
