Chinese Cresteds :) Does any one here have a Chinese crested or other hairless breed :) ? I'm fostering one, its started to get cold outside and I dont know what kind of clothes I can put him in, he's allergic to whool, what should I use? :) And whats the best way to shave him ? I have normal dog clippers, I shaved him with a 10# blade but he still has some hair on his naked body (he's a true hairless but gets a few hairs here and there). And also, whats the best harnesses to use on these dogs that are really soft :D ? |

THIS TYPE OF DOG SHOULD NOT BE SHAVED. THEY DO REQUIRE SOME GROOMING BECAUSE THEY CAN HAVE SKIN ISSUES Bathe the Hairless frequently and massage a little oil or cream into the skin to keep it supple. These dogs shed little to no hair and are great for allergy sufferers. The hairless variety is not prone to fleas. They can get ticks just like humans, but they are easy to see. FOR CLOTHING YOU COULD USE COTTON OR FLEECE PAJAMAS. I ALSO THINK A COTTON VEST HARNESS WOULD BE THE BEST THING TO USE. |
Fleece coats. |
Thanks for the info :) ! I have to shave him because he's a show dog, he cant have hair here and there (theres not much hair on his body but what is has to go) :) ... |
Most of the hairless cresteds are shaved before showing, so it should be OK :) |

Gosh, I just love those Cresteds -- they're so cute in such an unusual way. All skin, and then suddenly poofs of fur explosions. Post a piccie! I don't know much about this breed...but I don't think you're supposed to shave him...? On that note, I'm wondering why one would even shave a hairless dog - is there a reason? How is his personality, btw? Energetic like a terrier, or more docile? |
He's much like a yorkie, but really shy since he's from a puppy mill the poor guy. Well he isn't a ''real show dog'', he goes to shows for fun he's not a breeding dog, just a pet :) But he can't have little parts of hair here and there on dog shows haha :P Here are a few pictures! Sorry put you have to push on the links to see them :P http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...31807148_n.jpg http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...67545237_n.jpg (He's unshaved there, you can see the extra hair on his chest, legs etc. ) http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...80837203_n.jpg Too darn' cute ! :D |
People on dog show almost always shave cresteds before show, most of the cresteds today, especially those with long flowing hair on head , feet and tail, get long hair on the rest of the body, just not as thick, so it is shaved ! With a razor often (i've seen people shave cresteds with normal lady razors on DOG SHOWS ! that shocks me) I shaved the dog I'm fostering once but I used a clipper and I didn't use a short blade, and I didn't let it touch the skin even, I took the hairs where they were the most and held them together, and shaved then with the clippers), so he didn't get hurt or anything, I just couldn't stand watching those hairs here and there on his body :P He's much cuter now. |
Don't forget sunscreen on the skin when outside :) |

OMG - too cute!!!! I looked at Chinese Crested but got Jack instead and now have Izzy. I think our family is complete for now. But he is absolutely beautiful! |
