First shots Hey guys my furbaby is gettin his first shots this Sunday n we are also takin to get his nails cut for the first time I'm excited about his shots because I will finally b able to walk him but I can't even watch web my skin child gets his shots I don't want him to b in pain. It's about time his nails get cut cause he's been scratching mommy up n I gave been to scared to do it myself cause I don't wanna hurt him. Wat was ur experience like are there any treats u all recommend for him after such a long day?? |
When my little Kipper got his first shot from the vet, he cried and broke loose from the hold the vet had on him. The vet took him out of the room and gave him his shots without me being present. I trust my vet, so that was okay. He might have thought Kipper was only putting on a show for mommy. The last shot he got, he didn't even flinch! He never acted sick afterwards and he was given his rabies shot early (along with his distemper shot) because of the rabid bats in our area and he didn't have any trouble with that, either. You may wish to get better advice from people in your area and knowing the background of your puppy's genealogy, to make sure none of his ancestors had trouble with vaccinations. When my puppy is going through something he is worried about, he won't eat the treat, so I don't bother with it, preferring loves and hugs instead. |
Ah, I can imagine how scared you will be. I am taking Ziggy for his first annual check up next week and I am a nervous wreck! Your baby will be fine though. I think treats at such a young age would not be great, I remember I would give Ziggy little carrot pieces as treats and they would "come out" in poop undigested!lol. They really do have tiny sensitive tummies. So maybe just some extra loving and rest would be great. Also, and I might just be a crazy over protective mommy, but I only took my Ziggy on walks in the "outside" world once all his shots wre done (at about 5 months old), long time I know, lol. But like I said, I am super over protective like that. I have been reading all your posts about your puppy, and I just wanted to also say you are doing a great job! You should know that, its not easy having a young puppy (I also got Ziggy at 8 weeks old) but your baby seems healthy and you're oing the best you can. |
My little ones have never even flinched when getting their shots. Our vet uses a very small needle and is very gentle with them. |
They broke up Gracie's shots so she didn't get all of them at once. She did very well. Your vet tech can cut your puppies nails for you while you are there so you don't have to go to another place to have it done. Sometimes the pup's nails will remain sharp even after they are cut unless they use a dremel to grind the sharp edge off the nail. Don't know if your vet would have that but it is worth asking. I know how those little nails can hurt especially when you are wearing shorts! |
I think getting shots and nails trimmed if done at two different places might be to much for your little guy in one day. Also you should not take him for walks until he has had all of his puppy shots not just the first set. |
My vet told me that after his second set of shots, he would have been about 85% protected. I was not willing to take the chance of my dear precious puppy getting anything, so I waited until 24 hours (per vet's recommendation) after his last shots before I let him down for walks or contact with other dogs, other than my own. |
