Hello to all Yorkie Lovers Hello everyone I have never used this kind of discussion board to talk to people, but after searching for Yorkie for me and my husband to love, I came across this Website and of course hundreds of people who says they are Yorkie loving breeders who turn out to be scams. I hope someone out there will be able to guide me as to where can i find a Yorkie without paying arms and a leg, and who are not trying to scam me. I am located in Oklahoma and my husband and I are willing to drive and pick up the puppy. Thank you everyone |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! Yorkies when from a good breeder start at $1,000 in my experience and paying less then that can result in paying more for vet bills and ending up with a sick pup. Yorkies can also can cost a bit of money in vet bills because they are so small when something seems wrong or they start acting sick they need to go to the vet as soon as they can and can have other health issues. Also keep in mind the cost for a good quality dog food and supply's as well as puppy wellness checks and shots. Some things to look for in a good breeder are AKC registration, that they do health testing on the parents, the breeders know there lines and don't have Luxating patella in them which can be very costly to repair if they have and need surgery for it, both parents should be excellent examples of the breed following the standard for yorkies, puppies should be kept with mom for 12 weeks, you should be able to visit and see where the pups are being raised, they are not kept in out buildings or outside, there is a health garantee, the breeder will not breed mixes, they don't use words like teacup, and they wont breed many different types of dogs. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk from another Oklahoman! |
Welcome to YT:D!!! Here is a good place to start, at the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club. Also, there is a great rescue in OK, OK Yorkie Rescue. Please be careful when looking for an inexpensive Yorkie, it can end up costing you not only lots of money in vet bills, but possibly heartbreak in getting a very sick or dying puppy. Plus, you don't want to support bad breeders so they can keep on breeding low-quality, sick dogs. Good luck in your search:D!!! Glad you found us, and you'll learn so much info here that you'll be an excellent Yorkie parent:)! |
I am not sure where in OK you are but my breeder that I got Zachary from is outside Houston. She doesn't have many Biewer/tri color Yorkies like mine but I know she has some traditional puppys now. She starts out expensive but MAY go down in price for you. She hand delivers to you if you want. If you want some info, PM me and I will let you know about her. My Zachary is the first puppy I have EVER had that did NOT have ear mites and worms when I got him. Louise and Zachary :aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:aimeeyork |
Hi, and welcome...from a native Okie now living in Florida! I'd like to extend my best wishes that you are able to find your new, perfect, Yorkie baby in the timeframe you are hoping for 'cuz... :yorkiesar |
You can also go to the AKC website and do a search for conformation or breed clubs in your state. They are good resources for finding decent breeders and usually have a contact person for puppy referrals. Sometimes people advertize puppies on the AKC website but I would not recommend some of those. Some are just backyard breeders. |
I forgot to mention that you can start your search at the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's (YTCA) website (www.ytca.org/). :D |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! Good luck in your search :) |
Glad it worked out abd Congrats! |
Hello and welcome... |
hello and welcome...you will love it here, lots of great advise if needed, wonderful people who genuinely care.....Your're well on your way to being a great yorkie mom...you joined YT! |
I agree that properly breeding Yorkies takes time and money and that you should expect that it wil cost more to buy a properly bred dog than it would to buy a poorly bred dog. However, the truth is that you can't tell by price. The scammers won't hesitate to ask top dollar for a dog that has not been bred or raised properly. That is what makes it hard. It is not so much having to pay for quality that concerns buyers, I think, it is paying for quality and not getting it. |
