Loose Stoole Hi, The night before last Lucy got me up at 4:18am and indicated that she had to go out. I took her outside and she immediately BM'd. It was partially solid, part loose. Last night at 1 am, she started scratching furiously on my bed. I took that as a sign, brought her outside and she had another loose poop. This a.m.,Lucy had a small, liquidy Stoole on my kitchen floor. She's been perky, playful and has been eating and drinking. She sleeps well. Lucy has a couple of natural chew toys (NOT her bully sticks) that she's been gnawing on lately. They're NOT rawhide. One looks like a meat bone. I purchased them from our local all natural pet store. I've removed those chews things but left the bully sticks. QUESTION: how long do I wait and observe before taking her to the vet? As I said, Lucy doesn't appear to be in any distress other than the loose poops. Thanks for you advice. Tracey |

You can go to the store and get her some Kaopectate just the regular flavor and give her some of that, also you can give her some Pedialyte. Maybe keep her diet simple for a couple days and give her boiled chicken and rice and let her tummy rest, then if she is feeling better go back on your daily routine, if you have tried all of the above and she is still having loose stools I would take her in.. But to me it sounds like one of those sticks made her tummy upset- |
I agree with pulling the bully sticks...stop all treats, keep diet simple. Make sure she stays hydrated. Any sign of dehydration or lethargy, see the vet immediately. |
I agree... pull the bully sticks. My guys had tummy upsets with them also. I know they love them but not worth them getting sick. If she is having one loose stool a day I would just watch and see if pulling the bully sticks helps. If it were several times a day I would take to vet. Hope she feels better fast!!! |
Yes it's generally something they're eating, so stop one thing at a time to see. |
Thanks everybody! I'm keeping my eye on her closely. Stool is still loose today -- but she's eating her dry food and walking and playing. I've pulled up the treats and my daughter's stopped training her with treats. I had to give her a bath because she got some of the loose stuff on her leg. So, she smells good anyway. Thanks again! A lot of members here use canned pumpkin (not the one with spices) it's supposed to help with diarrhea AND constipation.. |

Thinking I need to try antlerz for her next. She's such a powerful chewer that I think she got too much of that Himmie goodness and it made her tummy yucky. Luvlee, hope your baby is all firmed up quickly! |
How is Lucy now? I hope she's all "firmed" up:D |
Hi! Thanks for asking about Lucy-Goosey. She's on the mend but not 100%. I took her to the vet and got prescription food and pills to harden her stool. Her poops got so hard, however, that I discontinued the pills after 2 days. Then, the night before last, she started throwing up. In the middle of the night I heard the gagging sound that yorkies make when they're about to hurl (the thought of it gets me sick!). I actually caught the bile in my hands! Yuck!! She threw up a lot of times and I was very worried. I got her some Pedialite that I mixed with her water. She was remarkably better in the morning. She ate and drank and didn't throw up. So, now I've got the vet "on call". Her poops are formed but still a little soft. She's eating and drinking again. A fecal sample was tested and is completely negative. I don't know what she had -- but I hope it's over!!! Thanks for asking and BIG thanks to the YT community for all your help and advice. I'm very grateful Tracey |
I just went through a MONTH of poop issues (like you are going through) with all of my pups! Ya....that was a blast! The meds they were on upset their belly's too..my vet told me to give them a 1/4 tablet of pepcid AC with their pills...she said sometimes the antibiotic can upset their belly's...one of mine did vomit a couple of times..and they all acted like their belly's were upset...not eating, or playing..just laying around..once I started the pepcid they were all fine...Hope you little one is well soon. |
Oh goodness, I am sorry you are going through this with Lucy... I hope your vet figures out what is wrong and she starts feeling better soon! |
