Puppy Help
 
Hello, I have recently (within a few day's) brought home my almost 10 week old Yorkie male named Chewie. I have kept him on the same food that the breeder had him on, and so far am trying to free feed him. He play's, eats, drinks, but today had liquid B.M's....should I be worried? Or could it be nerves? Change in water? I'm such a nervous new Yorkie owner....any advice given would be greatly appreciated :) I need as much help as possible

:wavey:Welcome to YT ! Congrats on your new little family member. If he's got really runny poo, he needs to see a vet ASAP as they can go down hill quickly from dehydration even when they're still drinking. He may have worms or coccidia. Please update after the vet visit.:)

I would call my vet right away. Kyra had coccidia when we first brought her home and the vet put her on albon for 9 days cleared her right up. Good luck with your little one.

He had a regular bowel movement this morning.....do they really have such sensitive stomaches? My mom has a female yorkie and I didn't think they were so sensitive....anyone have any basic tips for me?

It could have been that you and the puppy were stressed. They can pick up on stress and fear of others. They do have sensitive tummies, but normally grow out of that. When my three go to the vet, usually one will have the runs for one day. I give mine a teaspoon of yogurt daily. It keeps their colon in check. Congratulations on your new family member !!

Runny poo can be a big problem in a little puppy. Make sure no one is sneaking him treats of any kind. If there is no possibility of him getting strange food or milk I would get a stool sample to the vet ASAP. A new pup should always be seen by a vet as soon as you get one anyway.

The breeder JUST had him at the vet, so I'm not rushing there unless it's necessary, besides, a co-worker's husband is one if I am concerned....he had a clean bill of health last week, and is due to go back in a few weeks....he may have had something my toddler dropped, or just nerves....water changes, perhaps, since he came from a farm. I am however going to do the slow mix soon to change his food over....they have him on decent food, but I want him on better...any tricks for puppy gnawing? or sleep patterns??? He is my first Yorkie, we have an older larger dog, so not used to how tricky this pup is lol

All pups even if from the best breeder should go to the vet within the first few days of you having them for a check up.

If you got a health contract you might want to read it mine stated my puppy had to be seen by my vet within a couple days of picking her up.

I was just in the same situation with my yorkie! He ended up having coccidia and I'm so glad we went to the vet right away. He has been on meds for a few days and doing much better. It is very common for puppies to have apparently and somes the transition to a new home makes it come to the surface. Hope your furbaby is feeling better soon!
