Is she Cottony or Silky? To early to tell? Hi I am new to this forum, I recently got my first yorkie back in june. She is a doll, but now Im curious as to if she is a Cottony or Silky? I always thought all yorkies had silky fur, She is fluffy though. My grandmother did shave her once already (she is 5 mo old) cause this summer has been crazy hot, could that have ruined her coat? I really love the long coat look and am now worried she cant have that.. Below is a picture of her I took today.http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...99354878_n.jpg |
Your girl is adorable! She may still have a lot of puppy coat, which tends to be wooly. Looking at her legs and paws, she might be leaning toward a cottony coat. The gold eye shine might be another indicator of a cotton coat, but eye shine isn't always accurate. I have pics of my boys showing all kinds of different colors and combos. You may have to wait until after she is a year old to know for sure what kind of coat she has. |
What a little cutie pie. Welcome to YT. Kyra has a very thick coat but it grows beautifully. I wouldn't call her silky right now at 8 months old because its a little harder to care for than Laddys silky coat. As long as we brush her 2 times a day and bathe her weekly though we really don't have any problems keeping her in a long coat. |
From personal experience, Mia has gold to green eye shine and a beautiful silky coat...she is completely golden having lost all her puppy black. This article explains eye color: Eye Shine Your fur baby is a cutie pie for sure. :D |
I am not sure but you definitely have a little cutie on your hands. :) My Yorkie, Max, is 10 months and his hair is wavy, wooly right now. Your Yorkie's hair looks shiny and bright compared to his. His eyes are always photographed green. |
Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. Your baby girl is adorable. I agree you may have to wait to see what type of coat she has because this could still be her puppy coat. Some even have modified soft/silky coats and I've seen this with the yellowish eyes instead of green or reddish-orange eyes from the camera flash. |

Thank you all so much, you all have very precious babies yourselves. I would love to be able to keep her in full coat , so I was hoping for her to be silky but of course I'll Love her either way. she actually got her cast off today which I am so happy about ^.^ I've learned so much here since finding this site a few days ago. |
I have only had one Yorkie and her coat is silky. When she was a puppy she had kind of fine hair that was very straight. As she got her adult coat the hair strands because wider in diameter and her coat got thicker but there was not a huge change in her coat type. I can't tell by your picture except that the fur looks like it has a bit of curl to it which is a cotton trait but it could just be because her coat is short that it looks like it has a bit of a wave. She is adorably cute. |
Her coat was wavy when I got her, as is her younger sister's (who belongs to my grandma, JD and the puppy share a dad) I have never seen JD's parent... Now I may ask for pics of them.. |
