Should i get papers from my breeder? I am such a newbie when it comes to buying a dog. I just purchased a Shorkie today and am picking him up in 2 weeks. Should i ask for some sort of papers or something? Also, do i need to get my puppy registered?:confused::confused::confused ::confused::confused: |
I doubt for a yorkie mix the breeder registers them, so most likely there are no papers. There are mix breed registries but unless you're going participate in agility/obedience trials there wouldn't be any reason to register your dog. |
Oh I just assumed no matter what type of dog you had it had to be registered |
congrats on your new furbaby!!! To the best of my knowledge mixed breeds don't usually have papers. Only pure bred dogs come with papers to register them. I have papers on all 3 of mine...not that I'm doing anything with them. I don't plan on breeding (all spayed/neutered) not showing them either. Matter of fact I think that Sadie (first girl) is the only one I sent the registration in for. I KNOW they are all pure bred yorkies...I didn't pay for papers to tell me that. |
Your city/town may require pet registration but as far as dog breed registries like AKC, etc. you do not have to register any dog. Congratulations on your new puppy...you'll have to post some pictures!:) |
She shouldn't have any papers. Purebred dogs have papers that say what breed they are and their breeder's name. |
Oh ok it must be my town because my neighbors dog ran away a few weeks ago and she actually got a ticket for not having the dog registered. |
You must be talking about licensing your dog. You license it with the city. |

Btw.....your town may have a provision that allows you to register a puppy that hasn't had a rabies vaccine, as that vaccine isn't recommended until your puppy is 4-6 months old. |
The only reputable registry in the US is AKC and they will not register a mixed dog so any registry she has for the dog isn't really gonna matter. |
