has anyone bought a puppy from here? in Minnesota.. ourfamilypuppiesmn.com I am looking to buy a yorkie or some sort of yorkie mix and they have a schnorkie puppy available so I am interested and I live fairly close to the town they are located in. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of Our family puppies MN or if you think it is safe to buy a puppy from them. I have been reading so much about who you shouldn't buy a dog from and I would like other's input on what they think in this situation. |
This site looks like a puppy broker for puppy mills. No I would not buy from them. |
Looks like a broker site. A reputable yorkie breeder will sell there own puppies so they can make sure there pups are going to a good home and will not breed mixes. |
Okay thank you for the info. That is what I thought but I'm just so unsure of what to do. We were really looking to adopt one but I was surprised how the price to adopt a dog at some places is now the same price as buying a dog as we have seen so many adoptions for $350-$400. They said that we could come see the dog this weekend so I didn't know if we should just go check it out to see what it's really like. The puppy was born in June.. what would the dangers be of buying a dog this young, can health problems be avoided if he is only 7-8 weeks old? Sorry but we are new at this and I'm trying to research and find out as much as I can. |
Also we have been close to buying a puppy from the pet store in the Fargo,ND mall.. we always see so many people buying dogs from there.. but I guess those dogs are from puppy mills too from what I've read about all those pet stores.. Just don't know what to do! |
A breeder that cares about the quality and well being of their dogs and puppies will sell only to people that they have checked out and will give the best homes to the puppies. Puppy mills breed pet quality dogs and create genetic weaknesses in the breed. Between genetic defects and the other diseases these puppies contract in these breeding mills there are many health issues you could face if you buy a puppy from this type of person. Taking a small puppy away from it's mother at 6 weeks is not only cruel it is dangerous to the pup. Little pups tend to die of hypoglycemia very easily. They are trucked for hundreds and even thousands of miles around the country and may times arrive in a weakened condition if they survive. The genetic problems these animals have can result in much suffering for these dogs. Some have a short lived life, some have expensive issues. I would not support the people who cause such suffering by buying anything from them. Shelters and rescues that adopt out purebred dogs many times only have that fee to assist them in being able to help other dogs. A decent purebred Yorkie puppy would cost at the very least $800.00 to $1200. You do need to be careful about what agency you use when going through a rescue. Try petfinder . com to locate a rescue in your area. |
If you're looking to get a lower priced Yorkie, perhaps a rescue would be good? One big thing that I've learned from being here since 2006 is this: That "cheap" puppy that sounds like such a great deal? More often than not, that cheap puppy turns out to cost thousands in vet bills due to health problems. When you adopt from a rescue, the dogs are vetted very well before they are placed. Any problems the dog has will be known and then you can make a decision on whether your family and budget can handle those issues properly. Not all rescue dogs have medical issues, but if they do you'll be aware of it first, it won't be a huge shock. My next baby will definitely be a rescue:love: I love puppies but don't think I ever want to go through that phase again, and also would like to give a deserving little soul a loving home. Best of luck in your search:) |
