The only way I could communicate with my 8 week old puppy was to immitate her real Mom, and I growled at her. When I hit the right type of growl, my puppy froze in her tracks. I also used commands with the growls till she began to understand English. |
Yep, I would yelp loudly when my puppy mouthed like littermates do or say NO BITE then ignore until puppy is calm. even just light biting or nibbling is not tolerated. just work with your babyand it will be ok. he is a bababy now imagine of he remains that way. you are doing he right thing asking for help here. you wil get lots. I'm sorry your baby is biting. its going to be ok. Hugs |
Thanks for all the advice! I was just getting so frustrated because he would bite me really hard with no desire to let go and he would even just run up and bite me as hard as he could which you can imagine can be pretty frustrating. I do want to take care of this early because it is not something I want him doing, especially since I have a young niece and nephew. I have looked into obedience classes but there are none offered over the summer where I live except petsmart but they want 100 for a one hour session which I think is a little crazy. |
Goodness, for one hour? For $100 I will take Cesear Milan please Hee Hee. But seriously, is that for a one on one? For my Shanti and Romeo a trainer came to my home for $135 for 3 hours for both dogs. The very first exercise was walking. I watch Dog Whisperer and Victoria Stillwell a LOT and learn a good bit. Also, try YouTube. DH just shakes his head as I got to YouTube for everything from bath bomb making to hair cutting and tile laying. At this point it's worth a try. Maybe search training Yorkie and even add age or training Yorkie not to bite. Google is awesome too. |
$100.00 an hour!!! Sometimes local rescues or shelters run obedience classes that you might check into. I am not impressed with what PetCo and PetSmart offer as far as trainers. I doubt very much they have any experience training dogs for obedience trials. Your best bet right now is to wear the little guy out. A tired puppy is a puppy who is not out looking for trouble. Maybe you could find one of those small tennis balls and teach him to fetch. It's a great way to exercise them when the weather is to hot or cold outside. Just don't leave the ball to play with because they like to chew those things apart. Keep working on his sit and maybe you could add 'down' once he gets good at sit. I know how frustrating it is at first but it will get better. |
