Learning the Ropes... Trying to get the hang of this site! Just got my Daisy Mae two weeks ago! She'll be max. 4# when fully grown. Like to hear from others with Yorkies of this size on how to keep them from chasing your toes (a VERY dangerous thing a baby girl)!! :aimeeyork Trying to post a couple of videos of her too - do they have to be YouTubes? Have a great evening! Tam |
There really is no way to tell for sure how big a pup will be until it becomes full grown. When Callie was nipping feet the only thing that worked for us is to say no and squirt her with a water squirt bottle. |
Hi Tam! Welcome to Yorkietalk! :). I have two girls, one a little over 4 lb and my other is close to 6 lb. I have not had the toe chasing issue with either one of mine but neither were puppies when I got them. Rosie was 6 months when I got her and Mikki was one year old. So no advice there. As far as the video, I did upload a few and yes I used YouTube. Can't wait to see pictures of your baby! |
Welcome to YT! I have not had the toe biting problem! There are several members here, though, and I'm sure you will receive great advice! |
Hello and welcome.... |

Welcome to YT!!! |
When Ziva came to us (3 years ago!) we had a big dog and five people, so we blocked her off into the dining room and went to her, she did not get free run of the house for many months. We sat on beach chairs and put down a yoga mat and played with her at her level- no foot chasing! When she was older we had to get her a collar with a bell and got rid of the reclining furniture. Abby(1 year) was much easier to incorporate into our household! |
Hi and welcome to YT! Nice to see you here as a new member. :) |
welcome to yt! |
Hello and welcome to YT!!!:D |
Hi I have Kyra who is 2.8 lbs now at 8 months and she was a toe chaser. I would just say a firm no to her and remove my feet. I never ever let her actually nip them and wouldn't allow DH to let her nip his either. It didn't take long for her to learn not to do this anymore the same with mouthing my hands. Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby. |
I know it is kind of hard to do with this type of weather but try to keep something on your feet when you are walking inside. It will help to deter your puppy from wanting to chase your feet. It is very dangerous to have a puppy under your feet so you may want to keep her in an X pen when you are not able to work with her. A young puppy should not have full run of the house anyway. Start to teach her to sit and stay. Yes, even babies can work on this. They are very smart but it takes consistent practice and lots of praise. Get her some bully sticks and/or Himalayan chews for her to chew on and she will have less of a desire to chew on you and other things that she could destroy. |
