I wouldn't take a chance. I would use a preventive anyway! Better safe than sorry!

To clarify--I say yes, to take a heartworm preventive...not use the advantix as that.

They are finding that fleas and ticks in a lot of areas are becoming immune to frointline. You still have to give heartwarm medicine when on Advantix.

Your not giving you dog heartwarm medicine? That can be very dangerous and the treatment for heartwarms can kill a dog.

Thank you Lovetodream. I'll continue with it. I live in Los angeles where I never see mosquitos, but I will continue with the heartguard since bloodworms are so deadly:animal36

We use Trifexis it is a combo drug for fleas, ticks, worms, and heartworm prevention. My Vet only gives this to dogs that are not being bred. It has not been tested to her satisfaction on breeding dogs.

I use interceptor to prevent heartworm. It also prevents a couple other worms, I THINK hook and round worms. They had stopped production of interceptor due to something with the human side of the meds (they make both pet and human) I was told that they are going to start making them again. As for flea and tick control (just posted this on another thread) I use an all natural method. I will post the sites here...

My little boy has had a reaction to both Interceptor and then to Heartguard. We recently tried REvolution. He appears to be ok so far although I'm watching for the fleas and ticks since we're not using the Frontline anymore.

There's advantix for dogs under 15lb. I know because I was using that on Kiko before.
