New Puppy: Bella 1lb 4 oz 10 weeks old :) Good Morning, We are new parents to our Bella. She is so adorable! I need all the advise I can get! I have read so much I have confused myself (not hard to do...lol). Bella is pee pad trained already, we are getting her very socialized new people, sites etc. Any suggestions on how to get her to go outside? She will hold it forever until she comes back inside......We knew she would give us joy, but never thought it would be this much! Just LOVE her |
welcome to yt! it may confuse her at this age if you do both. cedric goes both inside in and out but it was something that came a couple of months after training him. good luck and congrats on your new lil bundle of love!! |
Be careful taking her around other dogs and places other dogs have been before she has all of her shots or she could get very sick. Yorkies are very smart but I think at this age it will confuse her if you try to teach her to go potty on the grass and a pee pad. |
Bowser was paper trained when I got him which I am not good with... He was a NIGHTMARE to get to go outside. He would hold it forever! I even tried taking a pee pad outside...nope! Kennel training is the only way to go. Which is good for the dog in many ways anyway. What I did was put Bowser to bed and 6-7 hours later I would take him outside and by then he usually had to go bad enough that he couldn't hold it. However he was a bit bigger than your girl and could hold it overnight from the day I got him. So don't make them hold it TOO long, just long enough that they can't afford to be stubborn when you go outside. |
She's very young and tiny! It may be too soon to get her to go outside. I agree that you should check with your vet to see if she's ready to be outside with other doggie 'stuff.' Given her size, I don't think you want to over stress her either. My Lucy is 6 months & 5 lbs and she's been going outside like a dream! I didn't crate train (but was prepared to do that if needed.) I kept her limited to an ex-pen while I was not near her. Now, she's restricted to my kitchen while I'm away. She's finally to the point where I can leave her on her own for several hours while I go to work. I think your baby may take longer if she remains a tiny. It also may be awhile before you can leave her alone for periods of time. You may need some better advice from YT members who raised tiny ones. Good luck! Enjoy her.:p Tracey |
Congratulations on your new baby!! Make sure she has all of her vaccinations before you take her anywhere... you wouldn't want her to get sick. It sounds like she's doing great... we would all love to see pictures! :) |
Pictures, pleeeez :-) Congrats on your new baby |
I'd say it's too early to get her to go outside. I waited till Ahi had all of her shots (and still had to wait a couple of weeks after) and then once she smelled some other dogs pee on the grass she just went. So now I have my little one go on the pee pad and outside. No problems with either. My Ahi is little too she weighs 3lbs. 14oz. :) Oh! And welcome to YT! |
Thank you for the warm welcome....I am going to just let Bella settle in with the peepads. I posted a pic, hope it took! All your pics are soooo cute! |
