Should I have my bitch spayed? :aimeeyork Should I have my bitch, Molly, spayed? She is 5 years old and I have had her from a rescue centre. I don't know when she was last in season and I don't6 know if she should be spayed or not. Views and suggestions would be much appreciated.:confused: |
Spay her....you know NOTHING about this babys past, her pedigree, etc....I thought rescues spayed/neutered the animals they rescue and then place.... |
O see you are in England, arent your required to do so there unless you get a breeders license? At this point she is 5setting and if not already spayed she is at high risk for bacterial infections that can lead to multiple types of cancers. Honestly there is NO reason to not to permitting she can go under and the surgery doesnt pose a risk due to any health issues. Ot but her tail appears docked...? |

Thanks :animal36 Thanks for the advice I will get her spayed, over in the UK it's your choice to have dogs spayed/neutered. She's at the vets on Wednesday for the last vacs and chipping :eek::eek: she won't like that!! so I will ask the vet when she can be done.:) |
I am amazed that the rescue did not get her spayed before getting her a home? Anyway, you should spay her. You will eliminate the risk of various cancers that unspayed females are prone to as well as polymetra which is also a deadly disease that females can contract. You won't have to worry about protecting her from males when she goes into heat. |
I would spay her for sure and it will be better for her health in the long run. |

Just for information.....intact females can get pyometra which is an infection of the uterus. The uterus fills with pus and this is a life threatening situation. The treatment involves an emergency spay and supportive therapy.:) |

Spay her! You rescued her so why would it be fair to put her through pregnancy? Rescues don't adopt dogs out for them to be breeding machines. There are already so many dogs in shelters, why bring more into this world. Also, if you spay... you reduce her chances of cancer significantly and you don't have to deal with her going into heat. Full sized dogs will jump fences to get to a female in heat and that is not something worth risking. |
