I think I have made that decision myself.

A dose of benedryl should eliminate any reaction she may have. :)

I got all Gigis shots including rabies at 6 months. Luckily she hasnt had a problem shes also on a heart worm and comfortis for fleas.? Gosh I hope your baby does well. Maybe because mine is bigger "Teapot" lol thats why she hasnt had any issues?? I hope it goes well. I wouldnt worry yourself sick about it., if you dont trust your vets advice maybe get other opinions with multiple vets.

What do you do about the rabies? Can you have a titer done for that? I just got the card in the mail that she is due for her other shots and I am holding off on those.

AS far as rabies for me I have an exception letter because they both have a cogenital birth defect, one is neurological and the other has a cleft but has allergies and stomach issues so we were able to get a wavier. It is a law in California so as of now they do not accept titers in lue of rabies. I know Dr. Dodds is working on this and we hope it will pass sometime in the near future. I am not sure what the protocals are in other States. It might be a good question to ask your governing agency. But as far as all other vaccinations go I first do titers and they are all immune so I opt to not get more vaccinations. They are all healthy.

I am still trying to get over what happened when she had her spay and inguinal hernias surgery last month. She did not do well while under anesthesia (the vet does not recommend she go under again). She also had a little reaction to the dissolvable stitches that caused her long incision to look like a lumpy bumpy swollen mess. Thankfully she is doing great now and her incision is healing nicely and flattening out but she had a longer recovery then most.

I am now terrified she is going to have a bad reaction to the rabies vaccine. Will she really be given the same amount they would give a Great Dane...Sophie is 4 pounds and only just turning 7 months old. That is just crazy.

I just applied her monthly Advantage Multi 10 last night - will that being in her system effect her? (Unfortunately I have only now just read about not giving the rabies vaccine with other boosters, meds, etc.)

Has anyone here on YT had a puppy not do well with isoflurane but then had the rabies vaccine with no adverse reactions?

Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

You could always cancel the appointment and reschedule it 3-4 weeks later, just to give her more time to recover between challenges to her system.

Also you could ask the vet to give half the Rabies as a test to see if she'll have an allergic reaction, rather than injecting the whole thing at once. If no reaction, give her the other half. She make get stuck twice, but that is minor compared to an allergic reaction.

Unfortunately it is required to do rabies here or my dofs can be taken from me fully vacinated and I would have to pay fines go to court and risk loosing them.

Having said that I do rabies every 3 years and thats it.

Medical waivers are rarely granted in America.

When in doubt wait it out I say. But weigh your risks carefully please.

Keno has been a Tea Pot from the get go, at 12 weeks he was almost 5 lbs. My vet split up all his shots. No combinations at any time. That is how he handles Yorkshire Terriers and other small breed dogs. Keno has had no reactions and I believe it is due to the Dr.'s way of doing vacinations. He was neutered at 6 months and that was a non event. I picked him up at 2:00 and it was business as usual, potty, eating etc. It was like nothing happened, what a difference from my Bichon Frise was had a reaction to everything. Different Vet???? I think so. Find a vet who has alot of experience with toy dogs.

I have a tiny yorkie who is 1.5y/o, 2.5lb. and i I'm not planning on giving him the rabies vaccine. after i read so many bad stories I'm not going to give any of my furbabies rabies vaccines anymore.

my recommendation if Sophie would be mine, i would wait till she is at lest 1y/o before i make a decision.

Also i heard that giving Advantage or any other flea/tick medicine every month is not good. and should only be given if you see fleas on them.
(i personally use revolution flea and tick prevention when i do need it)

Hope this helps. Good luck:)

You really have to continue to treat during flea season with Advantage. I don't use it during the winter months but have to start applying it by June. In the southern states I'm sure they must have to use it for more months out of the year.

Sophie is on the lowest dose available in the Advantage Multi. This is much more then flea/tick medicine...it protects dogs from heartworm, gastrointestinal worms and ear mites too.

Thank you for your advice. I will have a lot to discuss with my vet at Sophie's appointment next week thanks to everyone's advice. Her vet is great and explains everything very well and takes the time to always answer all my questions and listen to my concerns.

Looking into the rabies vaccination laws here in Ontario I may not have a choice but to vaccinate her. We also like to visit the States a lot and I know she will need to have the rabies vaccine to be able to cross the border with us.

Barnawife...Princess Hope ended up with a small lump after her rabies shot. I never connected the two. I was worried and kept checking it to see if it would go down and it did. She was only 2 lbs when she had her shot and 3 months old. Being that I've never had a dog before I didn't know to question it. Thankfully she did well. She was a little sore, but other than that and the lump which I'm assuming was from the shot she had no other reaction. As to her spay that is in Sept and I'm nervous about the anesthesia. She's up to 3 lbs but I have no idea what she will be early Sept. Praying it goes well for your little one.

I didn't know you can give Benadryl to a Yorkie puppy...this is on my list to ask my vet. :)

Thank you. I am definitely going to be asking for mercury free and a half dose as you advised. I didn't know a 1/2 a dose could be an option so I am glad I posted my concern here on YT. If the vet will not do this to at least see if she reacts to it (as kjc, Kathy has also suggested) I will need to look for another vet who will. Her vet is great so I am hoping he will do this for Sophie.

Thanks again to everyone who responded. :)
