Carrots? Hello, I read somewhere that giving a yorkie a whole carrot to chew on is good for teething...my little Emma wants to chew on everything:( Anyone else give their yorkie puppy whole carrots? I was worried it might cause loose stools? Suzy |
Yorkies can have carrots. Lots love baby carrots ! mine will only eat them cooked and mashed and warm  If you are giving them raw, just as for infants, I would cut them into non- chokable pieces!! Depends on the level of spoilage I would presume :D:D:D |
I have tried giving Gracie whole carrots but she won't go for it. I guess she is spoiled because of all the baby carrots she is accustomed to getting. I really don't know how effective a carrot would be in cleaning the teeth though if your dog likes it I guess it can't hurt. Gracie loves her bully sticks and they are good for cleaning teeth though not for giving fresh breath. |

Well I just went to the store a bought a bag of whole carrots I guess i was thinking she might choke on the tiny baby carrots, silly I guess :) Anyways the carrot is about as long as she is LOL but she is having a blast with it! I am watching her close to make sure she don't choke...this is better then a chew toy! |

Choking fears are not at all silly!! Just please monitor her as she enjoys that big carrot!! |
My little lily loooovvves carrots the bigger the better!! She carries them around hides them under cushions and chomps away for ages. Lily has a very sensitive stomach however I have never found carrots to cause her any trouble. My vet actually told me that it is one of the best treats to give her along with sliced apple |

A cotton rope toy, wet it and put it in the freezer to make it cold...I've doused mine with a little garlic powder (not salt) to help the flavour An old wash cloth, rolled into a "rope" with a knot in the middle...wet and frozen again... Kong's filled with kibble (soaked in water until soft) and then stuffed and frozen My schnauzer also enjoyed turnip slices when she was teething...but I would often get "pieces" left all over my kitchen floor  Best of luck... |

Toki loved cold baby carrots for her toofs when she was teething! She still likes them but I think they must be especially nice for a little sore mouth. I also gave her bully sticks which she LOVED but I prefer how her breath smelled after a carrot as opposed to a smoked bull penis haha |

Yeah....after a long, hard day at work.....I come home to Penis Breath too    |

Mine love carrots too, but they tend to put weight on Jada..as most everything does. So I give them very rarely. |

I wondered if they would gain weight if they ate many of them? I did notice today after she played with hers and ate some of it too....she seemed to have lots of engery :) |

Raley loves carrots! He favors cooked carrots but will eat small, chopped pieces of raw carrots too! |
I am OCD....but I can promise you....if I gave any of mine a whole carrot, especially a baby carrot, they would be chocking to death before I could get the bag closed and back in the fridge! I wouldnt do this on a million dollar bet! BULLY STICKS ARE SUPER FOR THIS!!!! |

I think people and dogs can choke on anything if they try to eat too big a piece or eat too quickly. That being said, mine love carrots, celery, apple, sweet potato (yams) green beans, purple cabbage, green peas, brocoli, cauliflower, squash, all of these raw, steamed and dehydrated. |
My lil one loves baby carrots and I am lucky enough to get small bags (about 9/10 carrots from my school....she will get one every other night when I get home as a treat....she also loves peas too...I just tried freezing a jar of baby food carrots for her in my little silicone bone shaped ice cube tray and she likes those also....another member had suggested buying the frozen crinkle cut carrots and that way you can pull out what you need to defrost for treats....As soon as I finish off these frozen baby food carrots I have a jar of sweet potatoes that I am going to try to see if she likes those....When she was a puppy I tried fresh sweet potatoes and she didn't like it at all...so now that she is a big girl and her taste buds have matured we are going to give it another go..... :xfingers: :xfingers: |
All of my girls love baby carrots and it always seems to agree with them too!:D |

I agree about the choking risk with baby carrots. I have always chopped them up for Gracie. I can see how a cold carrot might sound good for teething but I would not give a whole baby carrot to a puppy or small Yorkie. Maybe peel a larger carrot and let him have it. It would be really easy for a baby carrot to get lodged sideways in the throat. |
