I must eat crow....:thumbdownand i apologize for my recommendations on flea treats....i found a flea first on lola then on cedric. we did the whole wash...spray...rara thing. i just feel bad because i thougth it was really working. not strong enough i guess and to date no natural product has been successful. cedric did ok with a half does of frontline plus although i hate to use this method but no other choice. ill do the other half tomorrow and ill keep him on this cause it didnt make him sick so far...i hate fleas!!!!!! varmits. |
I understand how you feel. I hate using the flea and tick meds on my girls too. But I have too. I do only use a half a botte on each girl. |
Well that's a shame. I also bought the flea treats and have been giving them religiously. I didn't trust it enough to stop the AdvantixII, so we're good here;) Oh well, they're good for the dogs anyway, helps boost their immune system. I have to hide it in their soft food, though, because Izzy won't eat it and I have to give them everything the same, siblings:rolleyes: Anyway, that's a great idea to split the dose of the flea meds. I am very lucky that neither of mine have ever had any reaction. |
I have SIX little guys and have to use the spray. I just don't have the money to do it any other way. I have had no problems. Louise |
I've never heard of flea treats before. is it like Comfortis? We use Comfortis here. Our vet hospital is trying to get everyone off topical flea treatments, they say they are just not working anymore, and this year the fleas are really bad. I've never had Uni on any flea preventative before until this year and she is 5 yrs old. It's that bad this year. She has sensitive skin anyway, and a topical treatment would not be ideal for her. |
I am about as all natural as you can get. We eat organic and so do our pets. Shampoos, conditioners, lotions, etc. are all natural However, when it comes to fleas I have had to admit defeat with most all natural products. I have used Advantage and Advantage II for dogs under 10lbs for years and it has worked great with no side effects. My other dog lived to be 15 years old and he never had cancer or anything like it. He did have an awful flea allergy though so I had to keep him and our home totally flea free. One flea on him would send him into an awful state. |

Advantage has a lot of toxins in it. |

Yes, we have tried it all. Every time I try a new all natural product we end up over run with fleas. I do like the diatomaceous earth for outside treatment but I don't care for putting it on my pets. Quite honestly there are all herbal and other all natural products that are also toxic to pets. I constantly go over Gracie with a flea comb when we come in from outside but we also have cats that pick things up and bring them inside. I realize that chemicals are to be avoided but we have used the Advantage products since they were put on the market and have had no problems. Fleas can take over a home in a of days plus they carry tape worm. Maybe it is the area we live in but it seems each year the flea assault starts earlier. |
Same here. DE is all over our yard and house Princess Derik & Maisy have flea allergies thay all use neem oil it works for us. Thus far using revolutiin has been great. Frontline Plus was good but they changed the formula on us. I've never found eucalyptus in any form effective. |

fleatreats.com and its an all natural alternative liver treat you give daily. i was hoping it would work and we could avoid topicals but it didnt for us anyway. |
I have stopped with heartworm and flea treatments completely my choice and have combined a bunch of essential oils as insect repellent for both myself and the boys. My vet has advised that fleas and mosquitoes tend to leave those alone with a healthy immune system and with my dogs on the raw diet and getting fed nothing but all natural organ and fish treats, I hope it works. |

well please let me know if this works. i just did some research and recently switched my two over to a raw diet with zero issues. they say that is the heart of the matter as animals in the wild do not eat store or vet bought kibble they eat raw. |
My vet recommended Revolution. He told me that the fleas are "out smarting" Advantage and Front Line. It prevents heartworms as well. |

A healthy dog eating raw (prey model or BARF) not on these meds has a healthier immune system due to diet alone (kibble contains filler and because of the cooking process makes the dogs system work harder process and excrete waste and takes 3-5 times longer to process in the body). Therefore a healthier immune system if infected by heartworm larvae is much more apt to expell the parasite naturally before it even has a change to reach the damaging stage of adulthood. Of course no harm in getting the bloodwork done every couple of years to be sure. You have done your dogs a huge favour and I feel really happy with my decision too. Also fleas ticks etc tend to feed only on animals with a weaker immune system. |
I made up my own concoction to repel fleas, ticks and biting insects. I haven't used it yet but, my daughter has. She has a boxer that is VERY sensitive to bites...poor guy has gotten hives twice, scratched himself until he bled. Maine has those green horse flies that bite bad! Because his skin is so sensitive she sprayed his collar with the spray I made...He never got one bite! I used 10 drops of peppermint oil, 10 drops of lemongrass oil and 10 drops of lavender oil, (all flea tick and insects repellents) added these to a cup of water and put in a spray bottle. this is also supposed to work on humans as well...,Of course it has to be applied more often but, I feel it's better than putting chemicals on our furbutts. |
