Emma's vet visit Hello, Emma went for her 2nd vet visit today. She got the last of her shots...poor little thing I know they are good for her and she needs them but I felt like crying when she was in pain :( She gained 1/2lb in three weeks she nows weighs 2 1/2 lbs and is 15 weeks old. She may have some allergies her nose was running a little bit. She told me to wash her blanket in baby dreft and not to spray the good smelling stuff on her anymore. The vet wants to spray her before she turns 6 months old...she seems so little for that? Just thought I would share her visit with you :) Suzy |
Ah, shame hun. I know how you feel, but the puppy stage ends soon then she wont have to deal with shots anymore! Why does your vet want to spay so soon? I thought it was better to wait so they can extract any retained baby teeth and spay at the same time? |
I.m not sure she just said she wanted to do it before her first heat cycle. I have some time to think about it and get some answers. She just looks and feels so tiny for something like that right now. |
i would space out shots do them one at a time...i do...cedric is a year old but i still insist and i would wait on the spay to be sure she doesnt have any teeth extractions. jmo. best wishes. |

I don't think I would spay her at 6 months. I have always tried to do it before the first heat cycle on bigger dogs but with these little ones it is much better to wait until they are more mature. Since Yorkies tend to retain baby teeth you can have any baby teeth removed later when she is spayed. My Maltese puppy got a uterine infection during her first heat and it was very serious so I have always felt strongly about this but really with a tiny dog it is more important to wait. Of course if she goes into heat you need to watch her carefully, keep her inside and monitor her behavior. Polymetra is a concern but as long as you are watching her carefully through one cycle you should be fine. |
