another potty training thread... Ok, I read all (more or less :P) the potty training threads here, and I know you are supposed to say No when you see him trying to go where you don't want them to, then pick him up and put him on the pad to do it there. And then praise him a lot if he does it there. And repeat until he figures it out what you want. The problem I have is that I can't seem to figure out when he wants to go. Especially with the pee. He has the same face and body posture when he just sits or when he pees. He is walking, stops for 2 seconds and when he moves again the little puddle is there. I tried putting a little of the pee on a pad, I tried spraying a pad with that spray that theoretically tells them "here are you supposed to go", I tried putting him on a pad several times after he wakes up... He is with us only for a day, but he is a smart dog and I am sure he would understand what i want, I just have to figure out how to communicate it to him at the right moment, which I seem to fail on doing... |
Aaaah! :) He's only been with you for one day? Everything's topsy-turvy in his mind and his life right now...it will take a little while. May I ask how old he is? Some Littlies really are so 'deadpan' - Harry was like that when we first brought him home. Consistency really is the key - not just after waking, but after eating, drinking, playing....after anything really, place him on his pad :) When he does manage to go in the right place - say good pee pee (while he's doing it!), reward, and throw a small party :D He WILL get there, eventually! He is 13 weeks old (born on April 14), I got him from Brenda Green and he is a sweetheart :). We keep putting him on the pad but he leaves right away, or he starts playing with the pad, and when we finally give up he follows up as pees on the carpet. We are trying to free feed him (which makes potty training harder), as he seems to be either picky about food, or very easily distracted and he eats very little. He is like my niece, her mother used to follow her around the house with the spoon so she can eat, because she always wanted to do something else except eating... |
