He did it! I'm a proud momma! Bentley rang the poochie bells to go outside! I couldn't believe it. I have only been using them for about a week. He has done it two potty breaks in a row so it wasn't a fluke. :aimeeyork:thumbup: Now to just get Ruby (our older yorkie poo) to use the bell. She will talk to us if we don't see her at the door so it isn't a crucial for her, but I still hope she picks it up. |
Yay! They sure do pick up things quickly! Watch out though...after Toki learned to ring the potty bells, she started ringing them to go outside for play time and to get our attention haha! Yorkies are too smart like that sometimes! And Ruby will probably catch on too...dogs learn from each other! |
Can you explain how they bells work... what is the teaching process? Charlie goes to the door when he needs to go out but I dont always see him right away if he could ring a bell that would make sure I was aware. |
I put some jingle bells on a long string by our door. Every time I took Toki outside to pee, I'd take her little paw and hit the bells with it (sometimes I'd just kick the bell with my foot on the way out). After a couple of days, she got the hang of it. Here's a video on how to teach it I kinda skipped the step where I rewarded Toki for touching the bells before letting her out but I like Zak's overall philosophy on dog training! |

That is what I do too. Bentley uses his nose though. I ended up buying poochie bells which was more expensive and I should have just hung jingle bells from a string or ribbon. :) I put a "command" hook by the door and hung them from that. Every time we take them out we ring the bells and say let's go potty/ outside. Use whatever command you choose. Bentley was going to the door most of the time, but I often wouldn't see him at the door as he is so small. The bells will be a life saver! |
They're wonderful! My lil girl rings bells to go out. It makes life easier.:) |
