Teapot Yorkies I was just wondering...when you get your teapot yorkies do you know they are going to be teapots? Do they generally come from smaller parents? It seems all of the breeder websites I've looked at have parents that are small. Where do those big babies come from? I don't really understand how it works. I like things a little unusual....like big (skin) babies, small big dogs and big small dogs. I want my next yorkie to be a teapot. I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't find it anywhere. |
The "Z" Gang are all "Teapots" with Zoey being the smallest at 8+ lbs. Zipp was 9 1/2 lbs when he died 2 wks ago. Have you looked at any rescue groups. You will definitely know their a "Teapot" b/c it will be an older dog and past the puppy stage. |
My teapot came from small parents. They come in all shapes and sizes...they seem to be a throw back from earlier times. They were originally bred to be around 30lbs I believe....someone correct me if i'm wrong please. |

Yorkies started out bigger then what they are now so generally its a throw back unless non standard yorkies where breed. The only real way to know how big a yorkie is going to be is get an adult that is already grown. I hope this doesn't offend anyone but I wish yorkies were the size they originated at I love my 16 pounder! |

Charlie was the bigger of the two in the litter. His parents are both smaller than him in the and defiantly under 7 lbs. His breeder said she guessed he may get around 7 lbs or maybe a little more. He's now at 11 lbs and pretty sure he's done growing. You never know I guess. I'm sure in most cases breeding two small dogs you would get pups around the same size but there is always that chance they'll pick up great grandpas genes who was a bigger size. jUst like people. I have 6 brothers and sisters. All of us are pretty much average size except for the second to youngest brother, Kyle. He towers over all of us including my dad. He's very tall and just a big kid. Some of his friends call him Bruno because he's so big. LOL My point is, I have no idea where it came from, but somehow he just ended up bigger than all of us. |
I like the bigger ones because we are active outdoorsy type of people. Chachi can take long walks on trails and he can even run with my Husband. Look for bigger parents |
Cody is my big teapot. He's now 2-1/2 years old and a whopping 15 pounds. Not an ounce of fat. His dad was 5-1/2 lbs and mom was 7-8. We knew he'd be bigger when we got him but didn't realize how big. He was 6 -1/2 lbs when we got him at 3-1/2 months. Vet said he'd probably be 10 lbs. He has the sweetest disposition of any dog we've ever had and wouldn't trade him for the world. |
