thanks Leia gets to the groomer about every 6 weeks to take care of the clipping of toe nails, ears, bottom... etc... next time i'm going to have a consultation with her about thining out and shortening up Leias noes and belly. I use little scrunchies for her tonknots... i don't like rubber bands because they tend to tear hair, so I use soft material so as not to pull her hair too much... It's all work in progress... I'm retired and she's my bff, so we are together all the time... I don't mind the grooming... I just want her to be comfortable. Thanks for all the input... You guys are great!! |

I think if she's letting you know that she doesn't like it, then a pretty puppy cut it is :) Strudels breeder had him in top knots from when he was a baby and he is not bothered by them or bows. He is in full coat and I'm super lucky because his hair doesn't mat at all. |
I have always kept Corky hair longer. Last week I cut it very short. He is a much calmer dog. I do not know if it because it is hot and less hair mean cooler, or he just like to shorter hair. Top knot is NOT going to happen, Cork pulls them out every time. |
Zachary's hair is and will always be short. He tangles easily and I don't like putting he or me through combing them out every day. He wears jammies to bed and a harness when we take him out in the truck. Come the colder weather, he will wear clothes during the day. If his hair is long, when I take his clothes off, he is one HUGE matt!! She may get used to the topknot. I have found that if they are young enough, you can train a dog to do just about anything. I take both mine to the Groomer 3X year. Given my location (HotSpot USA/Houston TX) they get very close trims in February and June. Then the October trim, which is more of en even the hair up (but a little longer) for the winter months. On the June trim, I have their chests and belles scalped, they SO love to plop down in a puddle of water to cool off, or just jump into the Bayou for a quickie. Given how active my guys are, in that we go jogging/hunting down along the Bayou, having them with long hair would be a disaster. It's still trouble enough, given that I allow the hair on their Ears and Tails to grow long. |
When you put her topknot in, go straight out for a walk, or a jog ! She will forget this after it ;) |
Zoey was my short and sassy girl. When her hair started to get too long she would walk around pouting. Lucy and Cozy get medium length puppy cuts. They love to roll in yuck. Roxy grows it long and flowy. She looks gorgeous running with her long coat. She did get "The Joey" the last time she was cut in the fall and was adorable. She also looks adorable covered in filth all 4 pounds of her. |
Mine get trim downs in the fall/winter when sweaters and coats come out. Less knots :) |
Jazzie had very long beautiful flowing hair when she came to us, and I kept up on it daily and bathed her every 2 weeks. However, recently things in life have gotten very stressful with my husband having back surgery, my Dad slowly killing himself and my Mom being given less than a year to live. Needless to I'm very stressed and at my wits end and also caring for 3 other furkids that are dogs, 2 other furkids that are cats, and 4 turtles along with the daily grind of things. Jazzie has ALWAYS been very well behaved and let me comb her and bath her, but with everything going on, I haven't been able to keep up with her coat the way I normally did and she started getting matted. I felt so bad for her sitting there while I tried getting the mats out, so, I decided to just cut all her hair short, except for the top knot. To my surprise, she looks just as adorable with short hair as she does with long hair, but I actually think she likes it better short. She wiggles and jiggles and rolls around on the floor like, OH MOM, THIS FEELS GREAT!! I love seeing her so happy and comfortable. I'll let it start growing back out now and see how long it is come winter and how she acts. If life hasn't settled down and I'm not able to keep up on her hair, then I'll keep it short, or if she doesn't like it when it grows out, then I'll keep it short. I do have to say though, my gosh she feels sooooo silky, even more so with short hair. |
