Anal gland issue again My yorkie has been licking and scooting again. He has had a problem with this before. I feed him natural balance duck and potato food Green beans, carrots and Cheerios for treats. I read somewhere that to many vetegatables weren't good. Today while I was gone he had poop on his pad and it was normal on one pad and the other one had loose on it with yellow jell like stuff on it. Could that b from his anal gland? It didn't have a smell or anything. Just wondering if anyone had any advice? |
Whenever Couver scoots... I keep an eye on him, and if he does it for a couple days, I take him to the vet to get his anal glands to get them expressed. It's a simple in and out thing and he always stops scooting after the vet expresses him. |
Some dogs can't digest raw veggies...slightly cooked is ok, blended being best. Grain free kibble is best w/4-5%+ fiber content. No, anal gland secretions are not yellow jelly like, it's actually kinda like their poo & watery to pasty & super stinky! |
Thanks, it was to late to take him to the vet to let him check him. I am going to take him first thing in the morning. |
Not sure about his food. I will check it. |
I have been told that dogs 25 pounds and under can have a harder time expressing there anal glands. Callie occasionally needs to go to the vet and have it done. Your vet can probably show you how to do it if you don't want to take him every time he seems to have this problem. |

How often is the groomer or vet checking and or expressing them? Some dogs just need it done more...mine once eveey 6 months at the most. Our groomer is a vet tech, but any groomet should know how to do iy $10is at the grpomers vs a vet visit. |
My vet does it free. He just started this again. So looks like a trip to vet tomorrow. |

i know with my shih tzu it was caused from her diet. i used to feed her a lesser quality diet containing grains and i had to take her to the vet every month to have her anal glands expressed. since i switched her to a high quality grain free diet and not extra treats she has no problems with her anal glands for the past few months. i am sure diet does not cure it for every dog but it worked for mine |
