Geno STINKS! Ok so I spent an hour last night getting poop out of Geno's fur. Ended up having to cut around his butt and I used so many baby wipes to clean his bum. Well I have an appointment to get him groomed on Saturday but he stinks now. Is it still safe to give him a bath tonight and have him groomed on Saturday? I just ask cause I don't know how their skin is - like I don't want his skin to dry out from being bathed twice in one week. Sounds silly but I worry about him. Kicking myself already for waiting this long to get him groomed. Most likely will be getting him really short this time around. I need to start putting on the calendar when his groomings were cause seeing him every day makes it hard to tell if he's getting too out of control or not. |
Does he stink all over or where the poo was in his coat? You can use a dental cleaning solution for spot cleaning... will eliminate poop odor. |

This has happened to me. I had to give Brandi a bath. She sleeps in bed with me. There was no way she wasn't getting one even though she had a groomers appointment setup. Didn't have any problems at all. |
I have had this happen with Rosie. I have actually washed her backside and no where else. Then if she still stinks I wash her all over. So you might o just his backside and go from there? |
If he has dry skin, just use extra conditioner/creme rinse, and leave it set in the coat for a few minutes... it's keep his skin from drying out. |
Well I was gonna just wash his bum last night but it was after 11 and my mom said last weekend he stunk. I don't really notice his actual scent after a while cause I'm around him all the time. Looks like a full bath in the sink is needed tonight! He woke me up at 3am last night and I just looked at him and was like PEEE YEW you stink! He got mad and barked at me, then shuffled onto his bed with the evil eye in full force! |
Yes you can give him a bath twice a week if you have too. I use oatmeal shampoo that's very easy on the skin. Lenox my smaller yorkie, stunk like hell yesterday too. He was missing for a few hours around the house. And I went to the kitchen and opened up a bag of cookies and out he ran from under my parents bed. He had the biggest poopie stuck on his bootie..lol. I said OH NO, YOU GOT A STINKY BUTT!! So off I went and gave him a bath and a nice trim. Its funny how they hide under the bed when they have poopie accidents. lol =) |
Geno gets really cuddly when he gets poop stuck...basically trying to tell me "mommy mommy help help poopy stuck!" lol He'll dart into the room I'm in and have his head and butt really low like he's ashamed. Then he goes on the floor and starts dragging his butt across the floor like a maniac. |

Hot Rod will not move and just look at me when he's got poop stuck to him. It's like, "Help me, PLEASE!" lol I would think it would be okay to give him a spot bathing on his butt before his grooming. It's not as though you do it all the time so his skin should be okay. |

how often to you normally bathe him, most yorkies tend to need a bath at least once a week, I have had several that I bathed more often than that. Lola does not seem to need as many she is half pom so maybe that's why, she is a hoot if she has the least bit of po stuck to her butt or even if a tiny piece is on a hair, she sits down with the biggest concerned look on her face and refuses to move. This happens outside thankfully but I can always tell, it's bad if we are on a walk far from home, because she keeps sitting down all ashamed and very still and I am running around trying to find leaves, twigs, scraps of paper and whatever to wipe the offending poo off. |
I don't really have any suggestions... but I do want to add that Geno is so STINK'in cute :) |
1 Attachment(s) Ladies, gentlemen, and furbabies...we have a clean Geno! haha Used the awesome yorkie shine shampoo and conditioner, madan brush, and 2 spritz of the special edition valentine's day yorkie shine spray. We got a big bottle of shampoo from our GE buddy Tessa but we want to get the matching conditioner before we use it. I forget what kind it is, I think Petsilk. Looks like it'll work just as well too! Geno's personalized towel is at Daddy's so we improvised and used Daddy's towel...Daddy's towel now needs washed haha But we have an amazing smelling and shiney puppy! I kept smelling him last night and this morning. I could tell he was getting annoyed haha And for being such a good boy in the sink and getting his hair blow dried, he got a bone that he was burying under Daddy's pillow when this was taken. |

Oh this leads me to another question, so he gets eye boogies that get crusty in his hair. What does everyone use for that? Is that what the tear stain stuff is for? Can you use baby wipes? My boyfriend is usually the one to take care of this and just wipes them out as soon as he sees them but Geno has been spending more of his time with mommy lately so looks like I gotta take over in the eye boogie department. |
eye boogies My Graysee gets those crusty little suckers on a regular basis. I have a few small baby washcloths that I use for her eyes, as well as eye rinse, and tear stain wipes. After I get the crusties moist with the wipes, I'll finish wiping them off with the facecloths, and I also use a fine-toothed flea comb to get the last remnants out of her hair. That's the part she hates! She doesn't like that flea comb, but she definitely likes having all the goopy removed! If she also has some goopy crud in her eyes, that's what the eye rinse is for. Of course, she gets a "good girl" treat afterwards. :aimeeyork |
If you don't have a commercial product made just for the eyes then use a wet wash cloth to wipe the eye area daily before you get a build up. I feed my dog a commercial raw dog food and I changed her water to distilled bottled and now she has no eye discharge at all. I guess it has something to do with their diet. I would not use a baby wipe near the eye as it will sting and irritate the eye if it gets in there. They do make special wipes for the eyes though. |
