Our new addition Hi all! I'm a newbie here, and I'm still trying to figure everything out. I think I posted something somewhere...but I'm not sure where it went..so I'm trying again :) My husband and I are getting our new addition in 12 days!!! We are so excited. I've been searching around the boards to see if I could get answers to all my questions, and I ended up going in circles...SO, if anyone has advice for first-timers, we would be so appreciative. I've been researching/reading so I will be prepared, but I felt that the best advice would be from mommies and daddies who have yorkie babies. Here are a few things we are curious about: - Advice for her first night in her new kennel..... - What's the best brand/type of dog food to feed her.... - When is a good time to start training.... - Anything you think is usful for a first time mommy and daddy to know... Thank you all so much! |

for her first night home i would put her little kennel on the floor right next to your bed and put a towel over the sides. That will make her feel more secure at bedtime. Bring a small hand towel or blankie when you go pick her up and ask the breeder if she can rub it on the mom and bedding to pick up the scent and place that in her her kennel.. i think you should keep her on the same food the breeder is feeding for at least the first month then if you want to change you want to look for a high quality grain free puppy food and gradually make the switch. yorkie puppys are very smart, you can start training as right away. hope this helps |
Welcome and congratulations on your new puppy! Right from the start use only a harness and never a collar to help prevent collapsing trachea. Look around the forum and ask alot of questions. Be prepared for a loss of sleep just like with a people baby! Get ready for a lifetime of love and joy! |
I would ask alot of questions about how the puppy is potty-ing. This comes in handy later when you see their little habits and are able to set up the pads or cues the same as at the breeders. We didn't have any sucess with Ziva until I put the pad in the same south location of the room as she had it.Ziva's mom spun to say she needed to go potty- Ziva didn't get that- she spins afterwards:(! |
