Wee pad placement help. We are currently living in an apartment. Hazels puppy pads where located in the small dining room section of the apartment but its so visible to guests when she goes to use the potty and everyone shouldnt have to see her "buisness" lol I was thinking of relocating them to a corner in the bathroom I always keep the lid shut and I was going to puppy proof the toilet and low sink cabnets with the baby proofing tools I just need alittle advice on how to teach her where her new bathroom will be and if you thinks its a good idea for her to have to get use to another place I dont want to confuse her. |
When I first got ZoE, I had the potty pads in her x-pen in the living room. As she become trained, I removed panels from the x-pen, but kept the pads in the same place. Then I gradually started moving them, around the corner & down the hallway, to where I wanted them. (I just moved them a bit each day. Now they are permanently in the hallway, so I have to walk by them to get to my bedroom, but I don't mind. Anyone that visits and uses the bathroom, sees them in the hallway. I didn't want them in the bathroom, one ...because I just don't have the room in there and two...if someone is using the bathroom, I was afraid, she wouldn't go in there and might go potty in my house. I want her to be able to get to her potty pads all the time. You can get pretty washable potty pads made in custom fabric colors that coordinate with your decor, so they don't look so bad sitting out. |
thanks I never even thought of the bathroom cons. |
How long have you had your puppy? If she is already using the pad in a certain place it will be tricky to change it. They are creatures of habit. You will either have to have 2 pee pads for a while or move the one very slowly to the bathroom. When I first got Gracie I had pee pads in two different places. When she was about 6 months old I decided she was good enough that she could get by without the one in the bedroom. To my surprise she went ahead and went pee right where the pee pad that I removed once was. I had to put the pee pad back in the bedroom and very slowly move the pad in the bedroom out to where the other one is. I would just hate to have your puppy get confused in it's training. |
