I asked a few questions to my vet and this is his reply.
 
Im going to spay one of my dogs (Jayzy). and remove teeth from Rin-Tin-Tin.


What kind of Anesthesia are you going to use for Jayzy (she has liver problems)?


If you only pull Rin-Tin-Tin’s teeth will you have to intubate him? He is only 2.5 pounds, and I read there is a greater chance it can cause a collapsed trachea, also I heard you can use a sedative or gas without intubation......


the anesthesia for Jayzy, I will plan on using torbutrol, ,midazolam, and atropine as pre-anesthetics. These will be used in low doses. I will induce anesthesia with propofol and maintain with isoflurane gas. As far as Tin-Tin goes, I will need to see how many teeth need to be pulled and which teeth. I will just have to decide that after I do my physical examination. In general, having a proper ET tube in the airway is the safest way to go. If the teeth won't take long, I may be able to give injectable premeds and even induce/maintain anesthesia with intravenous propofol without a tube. As far as the ET tube causing collapsing trachea, it actually keeps that from happening because it is in the airway keeping it open. But in dogs that already have a collapsing trachea, it can cause irritation and coughing after. Hope that answers your questions. See you soon.

I am not an expert, but I know isoflurane gas is the best anesthesia available according to my vet, so that sounds good! Not sure about the rest.

I love the way he's written a detailed answer, instead of acting like your questions are beneath him. I don't see any problem with what he has said, and I would trust him from that reply.

Great! Propofol!! Love it!! ETT explanation with regards to trachea is accurate. Sounds great!

Sounds good. Cali has mild liver disease and her vet uses a liver protocol if she has to go under and I remember propofol as being used. I will keep them in my prayers for safe surgeries.

All of these are great answers. However with my babies I always ask for Seveoflurane Gas. It does cost more, but I just perfer it since they come out of the Sevo faster. I especially like it for use in the older ones.
BUT, the plan your Vet has written out is great.

Opps I forgot to add one other thing, also make sure your Vet use's IV Fluids for all procedures and keeps the fluids running while in recovery, and doesn't take the IV Fluids out until you come to pick up your baby. And also that they use a heating mat to lay pet on during surgery.

Did you do prespay blood work a week prior as well the day before scheduled?

I'm going to do the Bile Acid and full blood screen on July 13th

Update:
My babies had there surgerys on the 17th, and they are doing well. Jayzy (had spay) is not wanting to eat much but the vet said its normal sense she is older(5y/o).
But Rin-tin-tin (he got neuter and pulled 22 teeth out:eek:) is super happy and i have to keep him from trying to play 24/7.

Thanks to all who prayed for them/me, and give me advice!:D
