Kimbo ate PIZZA!!!! I came home from a doctor appointment out of town to find the remnants of 2 slices of pizza on the kitchen floor. Kimbo got into the trash and ate the tops completely off. It was 7 meat pizza. He looked guilty as sin and I called the vet right away. She told me to monitor him and bring him in if he starts vomiting a lot. So far he looks normal and is still playing but I'm wondering if it's just the calm before the storm. Kimbo is 8lbs./3 yrs. old and NEVER eats table scraps. He eats Innova low fat adult food and occasionally gets a few bites of fruit. We left the house at 1 and returned at 4. His face smells like sausage. Is there something else I should be doing? My little man means the world to me. |
I'd just wait it out-I'd imagine the worse that would happen is vomitting or diarrhea. Jaeger got ahold of my pizza once-I wrestled half the slice back and he inhaled what I couldn't get to in time. He was fine. |
Just watch him & if he starts having symptoms, vet him. Hopefully it won't start a pancreatitis or gastroenteritis or anything. I pray he gets to enjoy his little bout of unapproved snacking without problems! |
Feed him his normal food. I would think you will have some symptoms by tomorrow. Maybe some diarrhea. It's hard to say since he has never scarfed anything like this up before. I hope he does alright for you. It is amazing what does will eat if given the chance.:rolleyes: |
If you had cheese on top, he may not even get diarrhea from it! I dont think you have a thing to worry about......I honestly do not think he even got enough meat to do him any harm.....depending on how much onion was on there, he may get an upset stomach from that....but quite honestly, I dont evewr remember hearing about onion being toxic and I used to share onion rings with mine and it never hurt them....they didnt get an entire order, but they got probably more than your pup got off 2 slices of pizza..... |
I"m the only one that is worried then? She said it was seven meat pizza! On top of all that fat and grease, there was also the cheese, that I would think would give them diarrhrea! Esp since he's never eaten any bad people food before, I would think he doesn't have a tolerance for this type of food. If it were me, I'd do nothing until I saw runny stools, but I'd be a mess until I knew one way or another. |
There's really nothing you can do except wait... at the first sign of upset stomach, I'd bring him. Jackson has eaten worse and been fine. But there was the one time when he consumed sooo much stuff in one night (including pizza, cupcake, and a bunch of other crap that fell on the floor at a family party) that he began vomiting the next morning. It continued every few hours throughout the day. But then during the night was when it became bad (every 30 minutes-1 hour) so off to the ER vet we went first thing Sunday morning. He had to stay on IV's for a night, and get sub-q fluids, etc, and it was a big ordeal. And he's 16lbs and had always had bites of people food, but never that much in one night. Just wait and watch for any signs of upset stomach/vomiting/diarrhea, etc. I'm glad you called the vet. |
Paris got hold of pizza once also but not two whole pieces. He was ok. Like everyone says, keep an eye on stools and feed some regular food to help dilute it in the tummy. |

I guess I am just overprotective bc Uni has a history of pancreatitis. We were gone from Mon night till Thur night and came home to two yorks a full pound heavier each than when we left. Their poop was full of corn. That's the only thing that doesn't digest well and BIL can't hide that he fed them that. But when I asked why their poop was soft and light brown, what snacks he fed them, all he could say was "healthy snacks". So if that's the case even just corn can give my two loose stools. Pizza I'd be livid, but in this case it's just an accident. Hope the baby's gonna be fine and I'm just oversensitive to this type of situation. |
Laddy got a hold of the grandsons meat lovers pizza once and ate an entire slice (Laddy is only 4.8 lbs) He had no side affects whatsoever. Good luck with your baby....Oh and someone mentioned cheese bothering them so I wanted to ask is cheese bad for them for a snack occasionally? |
I'm bad and feed Jack bits of human food (along with his regular food) - the one thing he cannot tolerate is pizza - the crust is okay, but he got some of the spices once - not sure if it was garlic or what and he vomited. No runny stools though. Jack eats cheese too, so I hope that's not bad for him...:rolleyes: Each dog is different though, some have more sensitive stomachs than others. Just keep an eye on him and if he vomits too much or has diarrhea, take him in as these little ones can dehydrate really quick. Good luck to you. |
A little bit of a low fat cheese is OK occasionally. We always get stories of how their dog ate so much of such and such and was fine and that is great but some dogs cannot tolerate the least bit of a change to their diet. Pancreatitis is always a possibility when a dog gets more fat in it's system than it can handle. Since the dog we are discussing here has never eaten anything out of the ordinary there is the possibility that he could have a reaction. At this point they can only wait to see what will happen. Some dogs can tolerate more than others. |
