Hi everyone, I'm new to this website and I have a yorkie he is 8months old he is a toy yorkie. Well I wanted to know I put my dog out to use the restroom before we all go to bed and I noticed when I wake up in the morning he has gone to the restroom in the living room and sometimes he goes # 2 also. So what do u Think I should do to try to get him from doing that?????

Sounds like he is not housebroken and still needs to be confined when you can't watch him.

You can't just "put the dog out" to go to the bathroom. He's still young and needs to be supervised to make sure that he does his business while he's out there, and also for his safety. Predators, thieves, and "tasty" morsels of bad stuff abound!!! He would probably do better at night if he was confined to a crate or an ex-pen with pee pads.

Is he in a confined area or does he just have free roam when you go to bed? Puppies need supervision & lots of care & patience! My Jaxson is 13 weeks old & fully house trained to go outside! You will be tired but you need to take him out every 30-60 minutes to use the bathroom SUPERVISED! Praise him when he goes & give him a treat! Then bring him right back inside so he can understand why he is outside. If you play with him take him out, you see him eat or drink you should take him out not too long after, if he naps take him out! You should get a play pen or crate & leave him in either with just enough space for him to sleep & walk around to stretch his legs! Take him out right before you go to sleep & right after you get up! IF he whines/barks he may be telling you he has to go out. Watch for signs!! I can tell when Jaxson has to go #2 cause he has a certain look/walk! That's really all I can say and remember he is a baby & it's not his fault for going in the house when your sleeping cause maybe you don't hear him barking or whining or he can't hold it. Try puppy pads so you have an area he can go and you don't step in a surprise! Also one more thing puppies have a short attention span like toddlers/babies so he may pee on the living room floor at 9pm and you wake up at 7am he already forgot he went on the floor so you getting up and yelling and punishing him isn't going to work! It'll just scare him. Good luck & hope you find some useful tips to try with your little guy. :)

Let me be clear I do not keep Jaxson locked up all day/night just at night when i'm asleep he is in his crate that's in his playpen since he's housetrained so if he wants to walk around and play with toys he can! He stays in his crate/pen when I go grocery shopping, or when I'm cleaning & can't watch him! Good luck again & congrats on your baby! I'm as tired as ever but they make great pets with the right love & care!

Looks like the little one isn't housebroken. You need to keep him confined when you can't watch him like others have said.
Be consistant and patient...it takes time.
Yorkies are notorious for being difficult to house train.

When potty training you need to take the dog out on a leash and make sure they use the bathroom and praise them for that. I would also suggest putting him in a crate in your room so if he cries or barks in the middle of the night you know to take him out to the potty.

At 8 months old he should be able to hold his bladder through the night.

In order to control what comes out of a dog, you have to control what goes IN the dog. Schedule feeding times and be consistent.

My girls eat 3 times a day, 7am, noon and 6pm. I offer water at times in between (more often if it's particularly hot outside), but everything is taken at 8pm. 10pm is the last potty break before bed. I make sure both dogs have done their business outside in their potty area. Potty breaks happen roughly 30 minutes after they've eaten. If I feed at noon, they go outside at 12:30 to relieve themselves. If one hasn't, she goes tot he ex pen and we try again in 10 minutes.

Overnight, ex pen, or in Issy's case, crate. There's no reason to allow an untrained dog free access to your home when your eyes aren't directly on them.

Most importantly, you need to clean the soiled area and use a deterrent (Boundary) to make the areas he's eliminated in unattractive.

Scolding or "getting" them for pottying inside will only create a frightened dog that is just going to hide when it needs to go. It is the human's responsibility to make sure the dog is taken out at he proper times. Make sure you take up the food and water after the evening meal. Make sure the pup has gone potty before bedtime.
Taking the dog to the same spot every time you take it out and teaching it a word that means "go potty" will help the pup to know why it is out there. You just stand in the same place every time and say "go potty," or what ever command you want, over and over until the dog goes. Praise it greatly and take it directly inside and give it a treat. Eventually the dog will relate the words you use with what it is supposed to do. The dog will happily want to go potty and will not be afraid. If you let the dog out and let it just wander around it never really learns why you are taking it out there.
