I am going to attempt .... to groom Charlie by myself. I printed some instructions, have the clippers an I am getting the bath ready as soon as I finish this post. Wish me luck!! |
Good luck. Just remember you will have to use the scissors also. I usually just shave mine down with a #1 blade in the summer but I hand scissor the face. Be very careful under their arms and by their hip. I cut my Pebbles because that loose skin got in my blade and she needed stitches. I do the under arms and under legs with a scissor too. Pictures!!! :D |
Good luck. I do mine myself. Just take your time. And post pictures when finished |
Good luck. Wating for pics. |
hehehe, good luck! Cant wait to see the little guy |
You guys want pics?? lol I got the job done, but he defiantly doesn't look as good as when he get out of the groomer. He does good for the groomer, but I've never done it myself. He wiggled and squirmed until he realized he had no choice and he decided to sit down and gnaw on a hairbrush handle while I buzzed away. I didn't go to short. It was just a practice session. I didn't want him having bald spots spread around... And I didn't get his ears . :( He was really jumpy when I tried. I really wanted to get his ears because they are weighed down with fur, but I decided I'll wait on them. He hung in there better than I expected. Next time it wont be such a surprise to him and it'll work out better. |
I'm sure you did a fine job. :) I groom Riley myself.... but i haven't used clippers on him, yet. I just scissor him. I have actually been looking to buy a good pair of clippers. |

I want to see pictures! I groom my two myself and while sometimes it isn't perfect, it's much better than leaving them at the groomers :) |
Ok. I just took one while waiting in the drive through for food with my phone. Re-sizing and posting |
1 Attachment(s) Don't laugh! I get a pass because it's my first time ever! lol As you can see I need to work on the hair in his face and ears more. I chopped too much to tie the hair up and not enough so it stays out of his face.:doh: I'm going to finish his face and ears tomorrow. I used a no. 1 attachment comb with it adjusted to the longer length on his body. I like when his hair is cut down short but didn't want to go crazy the first time. His hair grows really quick. Learning to do this on my own will save me a lot of money and time which is good. I'll post another one tomorrow after I get the face and ears done. |
Can't wait to see. I use the scissors on the ears. That buzzing sometimes drives them nuts. |
Looks great :) |
Think you did a great job! He looks cute (and happy)! It'll come easier each time you do it. p.s. also quite partial to the name Charlie! Ours was such a good boy. Take care! |
so I am not the only one that uses the chew on this hairbrush while I groom you with another technique..............lol |
Looks good from here! |
He looks so cute sitting there smiling at you. Ears are especially sensitive. I scissor them also. I wait until she is taking a nap on my lap and start snipping. The face was more of a battle. I don't do her face anymore. It is all grown out. When I use to trim the corner of her eyes with the scissors I would get her to sit on someone's lap and hold her chin hair very firmly so she could not turn her head. I used small round tipped scissors but you can't be too careful in that area. With the hair cut your guy has I would thing that using the clippers right on top of his nose up to above his eyes would work great. |

I made a few boo boo's and ended up clipping my oscar all over but i must say he looks really cute. I love it. Your little one pretty good. It just takes some practice. I bought myself a yorkie grooming dvd to use next time. I think you did a great job.. Before and after pics of my oscar... |
You did fine. It will get easier for both of you as time goes by. Try to sit down with him in a day or two and work on his ears, since you wanted to do that. You might want to do his feet one time, his ears another, his face the next time, and then his body. As someone above said, they do get tired easily and it is easier on both of you not to try to do too much at one time. |

I think you did a great first time! :) Going to be getting some clippers and grooming tools tomorrow to start doing it myself! :) |
Looks good :) Since my mom adopted our yorkie Joe, I've taken charge of grooming him lol sometimes it works out well, other times not so much :P The problem is, once his body gets clipped down, his head looks too big lol so out come the scissors, and it's the fine tuning that seems to be hit or miss with me lol |
