Damaged by toy A little work of caution. I bought a babble ball for the girls. It's one of those indistructable type balls that makes animal noises when it's rolled about the side of or slightly larger than a tennis ball. My Staffordshire terrier was playing with Lily and Molly chasing the ball. She picked it up and it became wedged between her teeth. She panicked a bit but eventually managed to dislodge it with her paw. She was running around with it in her mouth and I couldn't catch get to help. Anyway later she was chewing on a treat when I noticed blood on it. I checked her moth and both upper canines were snapped off about 1/4 inch from the root. One was hanging loose. I took hr to the vet. She needs surgery to remove the rest of both teeth as the nerves are exposed. She is going in this morning. Is a fairly complicated op as there is little to grip and the vet will dig into the gum to release it. Approx 2hrs under anisthetic he expects. Coost around £550. She is over 9 yrs old do a bit anxious about it all. I am going to write to the company to make them aware iv potential problems but it's just one of those freak accidents you can't foresee. :getwellso. Robyn |
OMgosh! How terrible! I'll keep her in my prayers.... |
I'm sorry your baby is having to go through this. That is bound to be soooo painful. I bought ours one of the giggly balls for CHristmas. Don't know if that is what you are talking about it but there are so many things they can get hurt on and get into. This giggles when it is rolled but mine have never really showed an interest in it. Hope your baby does fine tomorrow. |
OMG How horrible  Poor baby. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I guess that goes to show that even when playing with things we perceive to be safe, anything can happen  |
Oh no! Sorry to hear that let us know how it goes today. |
Ouch. Sorry and hope everything works out. |
very sorry to hear this and thank you for sharing so we are all aware. good luck and hope all goes well and your baby recovers fast. keeping her in my thoughts. |
Robyn's home now. Feeling very sorry for herself. She was under for 2hrs but the good news is the vet says the rest of her teeth and gums are in great condition. She is on metacalm for 7 days and two weeks antibiotics . Poor wee girl she has stitches along both sides of her gums. Am waiting to see if the insurance will pay out. |
Glad to hear surgery went well. Sending prayers for Robyn for comfort and a speedy recovery. Your post is an excellent reminder to us all that no toy is indestructible and we need stay vigilant -- even then, accidents happen. Robyn is lucky that you acted swiftly and took care of her needs. |
Wow, I'm so sorry that she had to experience that! I'm glad she is okay and you were able to get her into the vet... I definitely think a letter to the manufacturer is a great idea. |
wow sorry to hear this, glad you dog is doing well now. |
It is unbelievable how many things can be dangerous. Ouch..... That has to hurt a lot. Anything involving teeth always does. I will pray she does OK during the surgery. I feel so bad that BOTH of you have to go through this. And don't feel guilty, you had no idea something like this would happen. I am so grateful for this forum, that we can share these things. I had bad experiences with a recliner and disposable peepee pads that I was able to share with and warn others. Let us know how everything goes. Louise |
I'm so sorry you and your dog are going through this.:( In this country there is no regulation concerning pet toys or their food. They sell all sorts of dangerous things. I guess it's up to us to make sure our pets are safe. But who would have though that something like that could do so much damage? I hope the surgery goes well. Please let us know. |
I am glad the surgery went well, but how terrible for this to happen, it sounded so painful for your dog. Hope your pet insurance will come through and cover the expense. I hope your dog will be feeling better soon. |
