Hello Everyone,
This is all to me!! Been trying how to post lol.
I have a cousin that said this was where to come. I have a handsome 2 1/2 yr. old male yorkie whom i call Scooter. Greatest little guy.
I am not a breeder. But I would like to give Scooter a chance to be a dad:).
I am at home as I have retired as of 2011.
Can anyone give me help or tips .
Would love to meet more yorkie lovers.

Welcome to YT. It does take some time to find your way around. Just a note for you, that "advertising stud services" is not allowed on the forum.

If you are new to breeding; I highly recommend you read all the information, we call them "stickies" that can be found, in either the Breeders Forum, or the YT Library.

Breeding should never be undertaken lightly, we all want our Yorkies to be fine solid and healthy specimens of the breed.

There are a number of pre breeding tests that should be undertaken prior to any breeding, and you should know the health lineage back as far as you can first on your male, and then with the female.

I will quickly list what I would recommend;

1. BATS
2. LP evaluation - offa numbers secured
3. Hip evaluation - offa numbers secured
4. Thyroid - offa posted
5. CT
6. Full Blood Panel (no more than one month prior to breeding date)
7. Brucellosis (7-10 days prior to breeding date)
8. Normal vet evaluative on heart, lungs, etc
9, PRA and a CERF number secured

Depending upon where you go to get these tests done; you are looking at upwards of $500.

Welcome to Yorkietalk. The first question is, is Scooter and excellent example of the breed? Also is he AKC? Has he been health tested? Is he free of LP? Being a dad or even a mom is not as important to dogs as it is to humans and he would not miss out on anything if you decided not to breed him and maybe even got him neutered.

Gemy is known as a very respected breeder here on YT. I would take seriously what she says.

If you purchased your AKC dog as a pet then it is not breeding stock. Pets carry unfavorable traits that a good breeder would not want to pass on. The more pet quality animals that are bred the further away the pups get from what the description of the breed standard is. There are already way too many pet quality Yorkies out there that are producing genetically damaged puppies as well as traits that are considered defects to the breed.
AKC is a registry and has nothing to do with the quality of your dog. Pet quality Yorkies make wonderful pets but should never be bred.

Male dogs are much happier neutered and well loved by their owners.

Hi and welcome to YT! There is so much great information on here regarding breeding. If this is something you really want to pursue, you should start by reading as much as you can, maybe getting a mentor, and yes I agree with testing Scooter and making sure he's a sound representation of the breed.
