Our new baby Cassie We just brought our new baby home! Her name is Cassie and she is 14 months old and weighs 5 pounds. After losing our baby girl Alice 10 days ago, our house has been so lonely. Even though we still had 2 Yorkies, Pink and Ziggy, Alice was the driving force in our home. About a week after we lost Alice, we called our breeder. We both knew there is no replacing Alice but felt if it were meant to be, we would welcome another Yorkie in our family. The breeder told us about a female she kept to breed but couldn't because her tongue sticks out. She said we could adopt her so we went to see her today. Of course, once you see and hold the Yorkie, who can walk away? We knew that going in. Cassie is so cute, even with her tongue sticking out the side of her mouth. Her teeth or bite is messed up and that's why. If she were a human, she'd get braces, but instead we were able to give this baby a home and are so happy. It's too early to know her personality yet but she is very calm sitting on my lap as I type. Pink and Ziggy seem fine with her. It's going to be fun to watch her acclimate. She is the first dog we got as an adult. I wanted to share this with you all since my first time posting on her was in despair over Alice and received so much comfort from you all. Thank God for Yorkies! |
Congrats on your new girl! Can't wait to see pictures:) |

Thank you guys! Unfortunately I am going to have to read up on downloading pictures. Right now Cassie wants me to hold her and seeing it's her first day here, I probably should. I will definitely post pics as soon as I can. Aren't Yorkies the best??!?!!! |
Welcome to YT. Congrats on the wonderful addition to your family of Cassie. What a blessings for everyone ! |
I'm so sorry for your loss of Alice. It's good that another precious baby came into your life though. In my eyes 14 mos is still pretty much a baby who has much to learn. She is certainly fortunate to have been adopted by such a loving family too! Best wishes, Tracey |
Congratulations on your new baby. I know you are grieving for Alice and that you love her dearly. Loving Cassie won't take away any of the feelings you have for Alice. I lost my little one, Ashley, on June 5th two years ago. She was with me for almost seventeen years, and there was nothing I could do to prepare myself for losing my baby girl. I will always love Ashley and her sisters, and they remain a large part of my heart. I waited almost two years without a dog in our home, and my husband and I were so sad, lonely, and basically miserable without having a baby to love. On Mother's Day, we brought Katie into our lives, and we completely adore her. I got her from an excellent show breeder who is also a dog trainer. Katie was so loved and well socialized from the time she was a baby, and she was so well trained. She got her championship by the time she was fifteen months old and is such a confident, loving, happy, playful, athletic, bright, courageous little girl. She is an absolute doll! Katie had two litters of puppies, and her breeder decided to retire her early. We feel so lucky that our breeder entrusted us with this special little girl, and I know that you are also so lucky to have Cassie to love. Katie has been with us for seven weeks, but she is so well-adjusted, and she is the happiest little girl. She is so content to cuddle, but she also loves to play. She has made our house a home again, and we are so in love with her. I hope Cassie brings the kind of joy and love into your hearts the way Katie has done for us. We will always love and miss Ashley and her sisters, but we also love Katie so deeply and dearly. I hope your little Cassie helps your heart to heal and that she makes you very, very happy. |
I'm so glad you were able to get Cassie. I know Alice is looking down smiling that you have Cassie to help you through the pain. |
Congrats! I'm completely jealous of course. |
i am so sorry for your loss of alice but i am so happy you found it in your heart to offer this precious girl a wonderful loving home |
Congrats on your new baby girl, I love her name :) |
Congrats on your new baby and I'm sorry for your loss. |
Tears both happy and sad There is lump in my throat as I read all your good wishes! Bringing Cassie home was the best therapy for helping us deal with our grief over Alice. I felt a little guilty thinking it's only been a few weeks, but Alice did come to me in a dream and tell me it was OK. The breeder we got Cassie from was also where Alice came from so maybe she knew there was a baby there who needed a home. Cassie is so cute! Her huge ears don't stand up. I used to be a floppy ear snob. I taped ears that didn't stand up right and here she is with floppy ears that are going to stay. Her little tongue sticks out the side of her mouth but that face is SO CUTE! She slept on me most of Saturday, her first day and also Sunday. We took her outside a few times. From being mostly in a crate her whole life, she is so well-trained! She held it all day and when she finally squated down, we were so relieved. She went for a long time so I know she's used to holding it. We trained our dogs to stay in the yard. We don't have a fence but we are ALWAYS out with them. We were worried Cassie might bolt, but she didn't. We put a leash on her just in case but she never made a move to leave. Now she just follows the other babies and comes right back in. She is at the groomers right now. My husband is retired so he is their daytime babysitter (sorry, honey, I know you do much more than that!). Cassie has a lovely coat and I do have some pictures of her with it long, but we want to see what's under all that hair. We keep our other babies in a "puppy cut" so that's what she is getting. My husband stayed a few minutes to see how she would do and our groomer loved her right away. He said Cassie did not flinch, even when her nails were trimmed. We brought Pink to stay with her for moral support. Ziggy is still being mad at Cassie. I know he will adjust and get used to her. She tried to play but he growled at her. She just turned and walked with her head held high. She is such a sweetie! Later this week, we will take her to the vet but she only needs one more booster that we will get from the breeder, and spayed eventually too. We are going to have to fight with the vet about the annual vacs. Our breeder also said they over-vaccinate and should be only every three years at most. I know there are others fighting this fight. Well, my lunch is over so I better get to work. I just wanted to THANK YOU ALL for your wonderful welcome and comfort for Alice and cheers for Cassie. It is appreciated more than I can say. I will get pictures posted ASAP. |
