Kimberly (txshopper) was talking about her baby Gracie having eclampisa recently and Pat (YorkieRose) said if she had a bad heart she couldnt do this. I can relate to that! My problem is that I have a real tender heart. I am tender hearted towards any animal, creature there is. I dont even like to step on ants. So being a breeder has made me one STRONG woman. I now know what I'm made of and what I'm capable of, and someday down the road, you will feel the same way too if you stay in it. Just do it for the right reasons and learn all you can first, and you'll find that there will be tons of nice people willing to help you along the way. Please don't be afraid to post about it. |

Biddy's Mom, I wish you luck on this venture, and I can tell that you're going to be 100% dedicated to it. Like you said, just make sure you do all the research possible, and never stop reading up on the subject. I'm sure there will be tough times, but there will also be really wonderful times. Good luck :) |
I think you sound like a dedicated person. Don't forget that even the most experienced breeders had to start as a beginner at some point. I send you the best wishes and congratulations on your decision. |
Many others have posted already, but I just wanted to congragulate you on your decision. Many of us would love to do this, but do to circumstances, are unable. If this is your passion, why would anyone hold you back? I'm sure you'll be well educated when the time comes for breeding if you keep reading and posting on here. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see your posts, questions, and how you are getting along with this. We need all of the educated, kind, and passionate breeders we can get :) :) |
Wishing you the best of luck. You have a braver heart than I do. ;) I think someone as dedicated as you deserves to hear the pitter-patter of little paws in their home. :D :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I think people are too worried about what other people think these days. you should always do what is best for you and to follow your dreams no matter happens. Only you and your family can decide if its a wise choice or not. If you want to breed yorkies I say go for it. AND don't let anyone steer you away from your dream. You will regret it if you do. Everyone is a beginner at one time or another so never fear about that. You will make mistakes and it will be rough in the beginnings but don't judge yourself too harsh. As long as you did your best and have the yorkies best intention you have nothing to worry about. Good Luck and maybe in the future when nyma&pa want more yorkies we will beg you for yours. :-) |
No noe on yt resents you or will think any less of you beacuse you want to breed. That is where the next generation starts. I encourage you to get a mentor, buy everybook you can find on Yorkies and read them until you know the pages by heart. Look at all the differences of thought in the books. Ask questions of breeders, vets anyone who has genuine knowledge and experience with the topic. Listen to all these views. Go to dog shows-. Visit breeders in your area. Decide a plan of attack. Set your goals of what you want from your breeding program- be fair and be honnest. Know your breed standard. Have fun Make sure that if you are breeding- your dogs are of breeding quality. |
You go girl!! Biddy's mom: CONGRATULATIONS  on YOUR decision.. as long as you always remember this is your decision not anyone else's you will be okay. Don't let anyone damper your dream..... remember even the most perfect people out there have flaws, they just forget to look in the mirror... "What doesn't break you , will only make you stronger" Good Luck and don't forget to post pics once you start!!! Someone's going to be one busy grandma!!! :D |
I am always glad to hear of anyone willing to try to do this right. There are too few good breeders out there and it is terrific to see someone interested in dedicating themselves to learning before beginning. I am at your disposal for any help I can give and would be glad to help you find a nice girl. |
If you are passionate about the breed and want to breed quality dogs and you have the support (vet & mentor) than you should do it. The problem with dog overpopuation is not responsible breeders, but irresponsible backyard breeders and puppymills. :thumbdown If more people bred for quality, not cranked out litters for profit, there would be much more healthy yorkies and dogs and not homeless ones in shelters. So I do not see anything wrong with you wanting to be an ethical, responsible breeder. Please visit my page here to see info about looking for a breeder: http://www.superpets.org/the_facts.html#breeder (#1 wouldn't apply to you since you are just starting, yes, everyone has to start somewhere) Best of luck in your endeavor to follow your dream! |
I wish you the best in all your new-to-come Yorkie endevours! When Trixie has her pups in Oct, it was her/my first litter too...I think most everybody knows that by now. Like you you are doing now, I did ALOT of research and worked with our vet and other breeders first. I will tell you the one thing that helped me the most was actually being present for whelping before it was our turn. I wasn't as nervous as I think I would been had it been the first time and I knew what to expect, signs of nesting, etc. I have not regretted my decision at all...it has DEFINATELY been worth every minute! It is the most rewarding feeling I have ever felt...next to giving birth to my own daughter, of course ;) Good luck! You know your YT family will be here to help you along the way! |
i want to first start off by saying SHAME ON YOU!....why couldnt you have decided to do this like forever ago so i couldve got my baby from you!! hehe. no seriously, i am so happy for you and your decision. i think it absolutely wonderful- i have so much respect for breeders, its not an easy thing to do. i call a baby from the first litter you produce! [not joking, btw] like you said, you have to start somewhere, and i think once you feel it that this is what you are passionate about- its right for you. it will be so nice to have a breeder in the area- a trustworthy one. i wish i knew more on the breed and breeding so i could help you too, but im a novice- i know the basics, but im always reading more on them. i will always be available if you need help once you start your program...lol i dunno what i could help you with, but i will be more than willing to :] im so excited for you, Jessica!! i understand how you could be afraid to post that you want to start breeding- opens doors for lots of negativity, but i am sending you positive wishes and energy<33 yay! im so excited!!! so many YTers are soooo incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, i dont think you will have a great place for questions and such up until your ready to start your program :] :::hugs::: im so excited for you!! |
[QUOTE=wnalegria] Go to dog shows-. Visit breeders in your area. QUOTE] I'm going to a Dog Show in my area tomorrow! Believe me - I'll be asking questions & taking notes! |
